Glastonbury Festival, by robo on Jun 30, 2008 10:00:35 GMT 1, Hot Chip's "Coming on Strong" was one of my favorite albums ever but unfortunately they've gone down hill with each new one and finally lost it when only half of them turned up for a recent gig at The Scala.

Glastonbury Festival, by Curley on Jun 30, 2008 14:09:12 GMT 1, i notice all those that say Jay Z was great watched it on the TV but i was there on Saturday night as he came on, the intro tape was genius and but after he played Wonderwall accompanied by the whole field it went down hill rapidly. There was no Festival "moment" what so ever, say what you like about bands like Oasis, Radiohead, Artic Monkeys etc but when they play tracks like Creep, Dont Look Back in Anger, Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor to 75000 they deliver and its the moment you been waiting for all weekend. And before i get beaten up over the above i have to say that hip hop deserves its place at Glastonbury as the festival embraces all musical genres and all cultures but IMO it was not worthy of the Saturday night headline slot maybe the second slot but not headline.
and to ever was asking about the Banksy Boghenge it was gone, went looking on Thursday afternoon and it should have been below the Sacred Stones but alas another Banksy gone. In fact i have say i saw not one Banksy piece this year

I agree 100%. Fought my way to the pyramid for him, enjoyed the first ten minutes then spent 35 minutes yawning. I've got nothing against hip hop either, probably got 150 hip hops LPs/CDs, just thought Jay Z was pretty poor on Saturday.

Glastonbury Festival, by becksaboo on Jun 30, 2008 18:28:05 GMT 1, just got back. am like a zombie but yup that's his truck. there was a sign on the back with kids on it, forgotten what it said but as when i went back there last night it was gone. spoke to the organisers and they said he did loads of things but not the obvious stuff which is good as then at least people didn't nick them. think he did the plane by shangri la as well.
and jay z was alright. music wise, i think this year wasn't great but trash and shangri la more than made up for it.

I have a pic of the banksy piece on the plane in shangri la. the piece on the back of the ice cream van said 'mind that child', and was of a kid with a gun - it's an old piece.
sorry guys but I promise I will put the pics up soon, just need to get them into photobucket.

Glastonbury Festival, by goffy on Jul 1, 2008 13:52:32 GMT 1, Well I had a great time at Glastonbury. Jay-Z was good, but let's face it, it wasn't as if no one was going to turn up. On the whole I think Hip-Hop/Rap is shit, and I don't really want to see anymore of it on the main stage at Glasto on a Saturday night, although there is defo a place for it at the festival, and has been for a while. Last time Radiohead played the festival they refused to play Creep! Fuck them, they were shit anyway. I watched them and thought 'go on, impress me' and they didn't. Moby played 'Creep' on the Sunday night and was surprisingly the best headliner I saw all that weekend. And as for Oasis/Coldplay/Radiohead playing next year, I hope not. I would like to see bands only headlining Glastonbury with at least a five year gap between each one. And personally I wouldn't want to see those three groups at any time in the future or ever! Oh! and by the way, Leonard Cohen was great.

I'm amazed how well Jay Z was received but I think you've hit the nail on the head, Jay Z was good but normally you think hip hop's s**t.
As a long time hip hop fan he (and Tings Tings but they're just crap, nothing to do wiht me liking hip hop) was the musical lowpoint of the festival for me. Dizzee Rascal on the other hand was pure class, even if that's pushing the definition of hip hop a bit.

I wasn't convinced myself truthfully. the execution was quite poor. cool piece though. it was in shangri la, not trash city (eventhough there was another plane in trash city).

I think it's good that he didn't do anything big this year but still contributed in a less obvious way.
Also when I was driving home, two girls were boarding up the 'Jay eavis' stencil which is weird because i thought it was accepted that it wasn't a banksy - although michael eavis has been going around saying it is a banksy.

there is also a good shot of the banksy ice cream van on the pictures of the park stage. There were some I Love Michael Eavis graffiti that appeared on the saturday night, which apparently was by mr b.
