A 30-year-old mural by well-known New York street artist Keith Haring has been graffitied less than a year after it was painstakingly restored.
Thirty years ago Haring painted the mural on the wall of the old Collingwood Technical School in Melbourne's inner-north.
It is one of the few remaining original artworks left in the world created by the social activist, police said.
Italian conservator Antonio Rava spent months lovingly restoring the mural to its former glory last year after decades of decay.
Collingwood locals were devastated when they found the mural on Johnston Street had been defaced.
Police said the graffiti took place some time between 5:00pm on February 13 and 12:00pm on February 14.
Detective Senior Constable Phoebe Coulson said the damage might be irreversible.
"It's really disappointing to have this happen," she said.
"We'd really encourage anyone who may have seen or heard something in the area on Friday evening to give us a call."

And I've met Stormie Mills a couple of times whilst working at the GGS Art Exhibition here in little Perth....no purchases for me yet though.

Been living in Brisbane past 2 years and Sydney before that. Met a couple of other members in 2010 for the movie premier in Sydney, good guys that have been into the scene a lot longer than I.

There's heaps to do. In terms of street art, you could check out Phlegms new piece on chapel street. Heaps of cafe's/bars etc and shopping there too.
It's the first week of footy finals this weekend also and that runs the whole month. Melbourne will be going crazy as Victorians love their sports.

As of late, I've been finding purchasing, trading and selling extremely hard to do from the land down under, as everything is so expensive to ship, and our dollar is f*cked to put it nicely. Any fellow Aussies wanna chime in, and get this thread going? Even just start it off as a meet and greet, and just introduce yourself - who you are, where you're based, and what you collect..

Iโm up here in sunny Brisbane, originally from uk been in Oz 16 years, first eleven were in Sydney lived 6 years in Bondi, got into the scene initially loving street art of the inner west and Melbourne etc. Then joined here around 2008 after discovering POW.
Thereโs been a few aussies on here over the years, some good guys Iโve had the banter with. Iโve been recently moaning on here about our shit dollar also lol!! Havenโt had a recession in 28 years which is a world record, but yes our economy Iโd say is sliding.
Iโve collected all sorts over the years, Collection has thinned out a little due to wife and kids and due to buying a smaller house in the city. No rush but I have a Banksy chocolate donuts I wouldnt mind selling down the track in Australia because itโs less hassle than shipping etc.. so if anyone knows a gallery or collector that may be interested? Cheers
