This seems incredibly low for an original work, does it not? Seems like most signed edition prints sell for more than this.

I think the last one auctioned on eBay fetched little more than this a few months back

I would rather have a nice print on my wall than a weird piece of wood on my mantlepiece. Rarity does not equal beauty/popularity.

I don't see these as a weird piece of wood. I find them quite beautiful, both aesthetically and in meaning, I also think that Ghetto in Bethlehem will be an event that will be remembered in the history of Banksy.

Banksy Watchtower , by craigf on Oct 5, 2012 8:15:11 GMT 1, Each to their own re the watchtowers. In the flesh they are very nice, almost tactile although clearly you don't want a lot of handling and in addition if your walls are already full....
If you look at what an editioned canvas goes for these days they are a bargain and I doubt they will remain this cheap for that long. I am not saying that any day now prices will double, but they are an editioned original rather than an editioned print which for some will mean a lot more further down the road.

They were carved by someone else though, and exsisted before Banksy signed the bottom of them, so a bit of a rip off of another mans work, wait not even a rip off, he just took someone elses work and signed it!

I'm sure he doesn't cast his own bronzes either. I still like them though.

I mean the whole piece, idea and carving was not Banksy's the guy carved them way before Santa's Ghetto.

Is that really the case ? It would seem quite out of character, and pretty wierd ! More likely the guy was making something similar, or something completely different, and Banksy asked him to make these !? Otherwise, why don't we see more unsigned ones ?

Interesting to know, would you mind elaborating on who makes these?

Are you bloody kidding me he's spent half his life ripping off other artists ideas and putting his name/signature on them, out of character, more like totally in character!
Why don't we see more unsigned one? Cause the old bastard that carves them isn't on the Banksy forum, doubt he even has the internet, he lives in a country surrounded by a 10 meter wall built by a fucked up nation created and funded by us!

As for price, no idea although I did offer 4k for one a while ago and got shot down....

Banksy Watchtower , by My Name is Frank on Oct 31, 2012 8:49:21 GMT 1, I think the 'old bastard' carver Brooksie means died in August this year, Tawfiq Salsaa. The main work of which the towers were added to? He carved Jerusalem from memory, Banksy saw it and added the watch towers. So the watch towers were not ripped of by banksy taking advantage of a palestinian who didnt have a web site to sell his watch towers. The carver himself said banksy brought the watch towers and added them to his Jerusalem carving.
If you want to buy something of the late artist, you can buy a walled nativity for £70 from the Amos trust.

Banksy Watchtower , by Deleted on Oct 31, 2012 9:15:29 GMT 1, These pieces were designed and produced by the artist, in many respects like the Bronze Rats. Banksy commissioned a local palestinian in Bethlehem to carve them out of olive wood from palestinian olive trees. Saint your are correct, these were sold to those who attended via silent bid.
These were not produced prior to Santas Ghetto

Banksy Watchtower , by brooksie82 on Oct 31, 2012 16:19:44 GMT 1, I visited Santa's Ghetto and was there during the set up, saw these for sale on the build up to the show along with all the other tourist tat thats all, I think I was with Stuey when I saw them, wasn't shocked at all when Banksy had got people to re -work them, or even sign them as his own, he's done it so much before in the past its just become the norm.
Its like Brainwash but not as tacky.
Don't believe the hype.
