Banksy Grappling Hook, by nex on Jul 17, 2019 17:59:18 GMT 1, Always interesting to read differing opinions (when it actually comes to art), as I feel entirely differently about the hook/Jesus combination particularly in relation to the Israel / Palestine situation. Like the best banksys it works on more than one level, particularly with the edition of the stencils/cardboard box. Itโs a very strong piece but I think people here base their opinions of art on resale values.

From what i can remember it was marked as passed and then changed.
Some auction houses go back to some lots at the end of the auction (Not all passed lots)

Subsequent to Bonhams updating the Banksy price I had a short discussion with Christie's on a lot that passed in May and they offered to "update the auction ledger to reflect the post sale price paid." I view this as a positive change for everyone involved as it helps both the house itself reflect a sale and the new owner acquiring a work that in years past would have been viewed by many/most as burned.

Its a well know fact that this goes on in the higher-end market.

Yes this would be a very good change. The only problem is will the auction houses keep to the actual selling price or mark it well up to inflate prices. Its a well know fact that this goes on in the higher-end market. |

It's an online auction and not too bold if you think you got a deal and could potentially double your money within 6 months.

I'm pretty certain it will, the shredded canvas would never have got close to 1mil at bonhams.
I could be wrong that it's that exact piece, just the timing made sense for that to be the case.

Itll be interesting to see what the Sotheby's one does. As much as I like his prints, this piece I feel is much more dynamic and unique. But I know that It will likely take time before any new release reaches 'iconic' status so I'm not expecting it to go crazy at auction.
