Hello ALL -
This is the firs time I am writing anything on a website other than our gallery website so please be patient if I do something that messes up what I would like to add about eBay and fake art being sold on eBay.

I have quite a bit of information on fake sellers, fake art, sham sales to build up feedback and I have been actively reporting all of this to John Donahoe and people who are in the President's Office at eBay .

My efforts have resulted in a few sellers being permanently removed from eBay. However I can tell you with 100% certainty that the very same sellers had mutliple accounts and were selling the same fake art from other accounts and the eBay actions had no impact whatsoever on these bad eBayers. They simply switched to another identity and vanished.

The suprising thing about these fake sellers is that their seller information tells us that some of these them have been around for a considerable amount of time. Some of these sellers have accounts that go back 10 years or more.

I would be willing to bet that over 95% of the so called collectable art on eBay is fake.

The more serious matter is that eBay turns a blind eye to it all and they really do nothing about it. Why?

Namely because they make money off it.

When you go into completed transactions look at what is really selling on eBay. $100 original Warhol crayon drawings where the image is the reverse image of a Mickey Mouse or a Marilyn.

What about the eBay faker selling £30,000 Lichtensteins for $1500. Or a $15,000 Haring artists proof for $1200?

What about all these sellers who are selling a lighbulb for £1 and a wire cutter for 50p and then they sell a $1700 Lichtenstein (worth $30,000) and they are all mint condition and their feedback is 100%? These people are simply building their feedback.

Very simply there are no cheap original Warhol drawings. There are NO signed and numbered authentic Lichtensteins and Harings for $1200. There are no Banksy's out there that are cheap.

eBay allows the matter because they make money on the completed sales and they make money if these fakers use PayPal.

eBay could shut these people down in a heartbeat using technology available for ISP's and banking data but they CHOOSE not to because I think it would hurt their business if all of a sudden all those fakers stopped buying lightbulbs and wire nuts and bogus items they pay for through paypal or for the transaction fee from the listing.

What can we do to fix this problem?

Simply avoid eBay and stick to the forum here and only buy from people who you can trust.

I could make an entire website out of ebay scams when it comes to art and if you all want me to do something like that I will help with it on this forum. I am not looking to profit from this I just want people to not get ripped off so when they want to sell their works they do not learn they spent their hard earned money on a worthless fake.

I just want to hit eBay where it counts - their pocket book. Because they simply do not care about all the people who trust them to facilitate what is intended to be an honest purchase so let's get them back.

If eBay cared they would not let these consistant fakers sell $499 signed Picasso's and eBay would track down these fakers and report them and see that all these multiple accounts are closed. eBay would not allow all these fake Warhol drawings and they would not allow fake Lichtensteins or Harings - yes there is a seller selling FAKE signed and numbered Harings!

So don't post anything for sale. don't buy anything from them and if you want to know more about how they operate tell me in this forum and we may get their attention to make them stop all this fake business.

Or will eBay not want to acknowledge this problem and be open to litigation and bad press about all the fakes?

lol asked the seller about the provenance and it gets worse. was expecting something hilarious after their first email back. The response first was this

"Due to the sensitive nature of Banksy, we need to know exactly who is asking the questions. Are you a dealer, a collector, a gallery, and where are you located?"

so i said collector i spose. in the uk.

We harvested the pieces ourselves from an indoor industrial location in California. No, we only heard about Pest Control today.
