Graffiti’s Global Popularity, Cities Still Criminalize It, by irl1 on Jul 18, 2019 20:15:43 GMT 1, This is going too far
Some municipalities have gone even further, restricting access to spray paint citywide. New York, Portland, and Los Angeles have special laws governing the sale of spray paint. Portland requires all vendors of “graffiti materials” to keep a log of purchasers that is subject to inspection by the city’s police department. Among major U.S. cities, Chicago has by far the most hard-line stance on spray paint: Its sale is banned within city limits.

To me it just shows how much the people passing those laws have no fuking clue of the movement, what it stands for and the history behind it. Writers are gonna write, the more stupid laws they pass the more motivated people get. IMO they need to embrace the culture and current times, take that buff money and put it into street art events, legal walls, etc. Get people thinking differently instead of battling a battle that's been going on for decades and has never been fixed with standard policies.
Also, internet is a thing now, i can order 50 cans of spraypaint overnight if i want. Those art stores restrictions are ridiculous

Graffiti’s Global Popularity, Cities Still Criminalize It, by Balboa on Jul 18, 2019 20:34:22 GMT 1, Let's face it though, not all graffiti is attractive. How many of us would be pleased to wake up and find some scrote has tagged their property?
