Heritage Auctions ๐บ๐ฒ, by Wearology on Nov 14, 2024 17:11:04 GMT 1, Before you bid on anything from this company known for selling stamps and props from movie sets - be sure to ask them what type of provenance they have on any item you would consider bidding on. If you are not familiar with them - you should type in Kaws and their name in the search bar and see what they are most known for on urbanartassociation.com -

Heritage Auctions ๐บ๐ฒ, by Wearology on Nov 14, 2024 17:34:44 GMT 1, Artsy.net was contacted and made aware of the lack of provenance of every LA2, Angel Ortiz & LAII associated with this other auction site as they often co-host auctions together even though they are not properly synced and different bid prices appear on each individual site. Artsy.net immediately removed the items and is a friend of the urban art community, this auction house has had over 10 days to remove these items after they have been made aware of their lack of proper provenance and have still not taking them down.

Are you saying that the lack of provenance on these pieces is because they aren't the real deal, or just that they should have the right paperwork before being sold?

Heritage Auctions ๐บ๐ฒ, by Smokeidaeye on Nov 14, 2024 19:23:24 GMT 1, Thanks for the heads-up regarding this particular sale. I was eyeballing a few things.
Not sure I have much of a budget left, though, after buying more stuff than I initially intended to in yesterday's HA.com Urban Art sale. because the prices were too good to pass up. Some real deals to be had in the art market right now!

The LA2 Studio does not recognize any of the artwork currently for sale in this auction and will not authenticate any of them in the future if approached for authentication. If you have purchased LA2 artwork in the past from any other source besides this peddler of vases and handbags, please feel free to contact the studio at info@la2studios.com

Are you saying that the lack of provenance on these pieces is because they aren't the real deal, or just that they should have the right paperwork before being sold? What I am saying is that anyone who buys urban art from an auction house with a reputation of selling fake Kaws items and has several pages of law suits against them according to a quick google search, should take 2 minutes and ask the auction house if they have a COA or any other paperwork that demonstrates that the art being sold on their platform was purchased from the artist directly, the artists studio or any other authorized sellers of that artists artwork.

They knew the questionable status of his art and let it go on until the cost of lawyers outweighed their 25% sellers fees.

If the artist is alive, contact their studio and ask is the art is real and does it have any provenance - if the artist is dead, contact their estate and ask if this real and does it have any provenance. It is not that hard.

While not at all defending HA (who I do use, when appropriate, but who I did also help take down when they were selling doctored Banksy's, if you search)..two questions for your consideration:
1) How many Kaws and LA2 pieces do "real auction house like Sotheby's" auction in a given year? What percentage of total sales for those two artists, for completely authentic, documented pieces with perfect provenance, does that represent?
2) Say I have a "real art, with provenance." A Keith Haring Pop Shop 1 print, with perfect provenance. If I called one of the "real auction houses like Sotheby's" what are the odds they would take that? From Joe Schmoe?

Heritage Auctions ๐บ๐ฒ, by Heritage Urban on Nov 18, 2024 17:54:30 GMT 1, At Heritage, transparency and authenticity are our highest priorities. We have conducted thorough due diligence and are confident in the authenticity of these works based on their source and provenance. However, the situation is more complex than the above forum discussions suggest. There are claims currently being addressed, which is why we have chosen to withdraw the works until these matters are fully resolved.

Of course that's his choice, just like Banksy doesn't authentic some of his work, but I don't see how that prevents them being sold at auction? Unless the actual ownership of the pieces are in dispute?

Of course that's his choice, just like Banksy doesn't authentic some of his work, but I don't see how that prevents them being sold at auction? Unless the actual ownership of the pieces are in dispute? The actual ownership is 100% in question. The art is not from the personal collection of the artist as incorrectly stated on their website. A large chunk of the artwork is mislabeled, not signed, incomplete and mostly studies that were never intended for sale. If you feel comfortable bidding on art from that site, just simply ask for a COA or any other paperwork that verifies the authenticity of the art. If they provide with satisfactory documentation than bid away. If they tell you that they have absolutely nothing whatsoever to support the provenance of the artwork then you have no-one to blame for yourself. If anyone has questions about the authenticity of works by LA2, LAII, LA ROCK being offered for sale publicly and or privately please contact the studio at info@la2studios.com.
