Beautiful Losers Lithograph Jonathan Levine, by Inknart on Aug 13, 2019 20:28:00 GMT 1, Beautiful Losers explains more about the poster on their latest post. http://instagr.am/p/B1HNHoDn5DZ Are the people here complaining about the $450 poster the same people who are selling Banksy can posters for $1000? "KAWS' bubble is going to bust" has been mentioned by everyone for the past few years now.... I don't like KAWS personally either but if his bubble busts so does the entire street art market. So I hope it doesn't. He has huge shows coming up in Europe and NYC next year. I don't think KAWS is going anywhere. True, but POW did do a re-release and price soup cans at there original price; ยฃ5. They could have easily charged market value at the time. I'm not a KAWS fan, but JLP charging $450 for what was a free poster is kinda messed up. It's not even an offset.... I think the difference between this and the soup can posters is that the soup cans were released pretty much by the artist with POW. KAWS has come out and said he is basically not affiliated with this release at all and from his post, doesn't even fully support the release. There is also nothing here that says they can't just keep printing and releasing more. Them saying one thing and doing another would be oblivious to us and the artist simultaneously.

Is it a sign of success or that they are just a fad...

Beautiful Losers Lithograph Jonathan Levine, by Deleted on Aug 13, 2019 20:36:50 GMT 1, How do we know POW didn't print a few more during the last release then or won't in the future...
Also, have you asked Pest Control how much they sell Banksy prints? Yes, Pest Control/Banksy still sells prints if you ask but at extreme prices. How is this any different?
This poster is not worth 10 dollars but neither is most Banksy prints based on image or quality. At this point Banksy and KAWS are brands and anything they touch is worth a price. Whether any of us like it or not. This print/poster sucks but there is value to it, maybe not very much, but some.

Beautiful Losers Lithograph Jonathan Levine, by sgolby on Aug 13, 2019 20:45:41 GMT 1, Inknart kaws can say whatever he wants, he made the poster, and says that in his post. He has everything to do with the image other than a financial stake in the game.
This is not and never was a โreleaseโ so to speak, it see s to me to be pretty clear this is the beautiful users, owner of this image, using JLG to resell this and other items from their archives.
As for the reprinting, that would just be dumb, it would be obvious, and JLG would be completely de-legitimized as well as anything the beautiful losers tried to offload in the future.
As for banksy and pow, again, fair point, however completely different circumstance, see my earlier comment, the difference is, Kaws has continued to peg his release prices to the market value, as you can see by your having to flip your mocad print for the same price you bought it for. As opposed to banksy who had a lottery release a few years back who did not do peg the price to market value, however did raise the price significantly over when it was originally sold.

People do shady shit all the time for far less money that these galleries pulled in today for this poster. Why is it so far out of the realm of possibility that they would reprint some shitty little poster from 15 years ago? and would it be that hard to make it identical to the cheap original free poster from the show?

You are right, there is no way to know whether they re-printed or would re-print these. However, I would go ahead and say to look at the history of both JLG and TBL. Jonathan Levine has been doing this for years, and has been I would say a fairly major figure in the low brow art and street art movements. The same goes for the Beautiful Losers group show. It seems ludicrous that they would do any "Shady Shit," as you say. That said, it seems you are a fairly major Kaws fan. I assume your stance is in defense of him stating that this is not an official editioned print, but as I said, it was fairly clear to me that it was a poster from the get go. Also, it is very much a legitimate Kaws image that he likely gave the rights to TBL to a long time ago. Kaws knows this and for this he p made his statement on his own IG story. However, what he wrote on JLG's instagram is probably a more telling example of where he falls:
He is basically saying, it is a poster, I made it, do not lead people to believe it is an editioned Kaws piece. Of course it is not, because if it was it would be 4K. IMHO it is a good thing that they released these and hopefully some KAWS fans who appreciate his work will be able to hang something now without spending an arm and a leg.

I would personally put it towards a Kaws print. There are some crackers out there on eBay, artsy etc. Only one way for this guy.

Beautiful Losers Lithograph Jonathan Levine, by sgolby on Aug 14, 2019 17:20:57 GMT 1, The flippers didn't get the message apparently, there are like 13 on thEBAY already ranging from $765 to $6,000 which is batshit crazy, with two auctions going.
So here is my somewhat rhetorical question for everyone who is mad about the price of $450. Had they released for less money and Kaws hadn't come out and essentially unendorsed the release, there likely would be even more listings; would you be happier knowing that the profits were going to a bunch of flippers, incels or otherwise?

And I think those were actually limited to those who attended the signing event.

Beautiful Losers Lithograph Jonathan Levine, by Deleted on Aug 15, 2019 12:31:47 GMT 1, This is incorrect about Uniqlo and KAWS poster. I was at the signing. Those poster are the least limited KAWS item out there. They had those for months and gave them to anyone.
They must have made hundreds of thousands of Uniqlo and KAWS posters. Every Uniqlo in America had them at the time for months. Also the quality in those poster are awful. They gave me one for free each time I went to Uniqlo during that entire drop.
Actually Uniqlo X KAWS released extremely rare postcards of the snoopy drop that was only released in asia. If you can find the postcard set, those are rare. Uniqlo Posters are worth toilet paper. He only signed a few of them at the signing and they were all personalized.
I wouldn't compare the two posters at all.

Beautiful Losers Lithograph Jonathan Levine, by sgolby on Aug 15, 2019 14:27:13 GMT 1, Hairbland. I am not certain why, but i can tell you that rent has SKYROCKETED in Chelsea. My office is right next door to the chelsea arts tower and our landlord wants to double our rent per square foot when the lease is up next year. Ever since Hudson Yards was announced the fabric of the neighborhood has changed. More than likely for a gallery dealing in lowbrow and urban contemporary they simply couldnโt afford the rent any more. I feel like in NYC you will see a lot more smaller galleries move every day viewing online and rent temp spaces for shows. Maybe i am wrong but NYC is just not affordable any more.

Beautiful Losers Lithograph Jonathan Levine, by Deleted on Aug 15, 2019 15:00:33 GMT 1, Lots of galleries moved to Lower Eastside and elsewhere. It's a big mistake for any media company or art company to move out of Manhattan. Some will barely make it in Brooklyn but even then. Jersey City forget it. There was a small art scene growing out there but it's no where near as stable or recognizable as Manhattan. Also leaving Manhattan can be a pain to get to if you are not familiar with the area or NYC.
It's better that all the galleries are in one place. Look at San Francisco. Richest area in America and yet the art scene is horrific there. They have all the top galleries in the world but they are so spread out all over the bay area; there is absolutely no art scene there because of this. Real estate has a big role in this as well there. It can almost take 2hrs, in traffic, to get from San Francisco to Palo Alto. Same with Manhattan and New Jersey.

That said, I do have one of the Uniqlo posters that someone picked up for me and gave it to my daughter who is a young aspiring artist who loves KAWS. She loves it even if it is toilet paper...
This is incorrect about Uniqlo and KAWS poster. Beautiful Losers Lithograph Jonathan Levine, by Rouen Cathedral on Aug 16, 2019 19:40:09 GMT 1, I get flipping will happen But what does it say about an artist when their images are flipped to an extreme? Is it a sign of success or that they are just a fad... Difficult conversation to have, with someone who thinks Banksy and Kaws fads. My guess, following the basic laws of supply and demand, is that there are currently more people wanting Kaws than having Kaws.
Banksy is a fad? Says who?
Is more people wanting kaws? People are buying to sell. Doesnโt seem like much want there.

They listed under 100 and 13 already on eBay.
Howโs that ratio for you?

Donโt have any horse in the race but youโve just proven the opposite... 10:1 ratio of buyers to sellers

Within 48hrs if release. To think the number listed wonโt go up is probably foolish.
About 15% immediately listed to flip.
In tracking a couple JR releases. Small ballerina and louvre to this day maybe 4% of edition hit eBay since those releases. With it being like 1-2% in first 48 hours.

Beautiful Losers Lithograph Jonathan Levine, by Con Art Studio on Aug 18, 2019 20:28:15 GMT 1, Beautiful Losers explains more about the poster on their latest post. http://instagr.am/p/B1HNHoDn5DZ Are the people here complaining about the $450 poster the same people who are selling Banksy can posters for $1000? "KAWS' bubble is going to bust" has been mentioned by everyone for the past few years now.... I don't like KAWS personally either but if his bubble busts so does the entire street art market. So I hope it doesn't. He has huge shows coming up in Europe and NYC next year. I don't think KAWS is going anywhere. True, but POW did do a re-release and price soup cans at there original price; ยฃ5. They could have easily charged market value at the time. I'm not a KAWS fan, but JLP charging $450 for what was a free poster is kinda messed up. It's not even an offset....ย i donโt think you know what an offset print is... this is an offset
Magazines, posters, any mass produced printed items are, for the most part, all printed with offset printing.
Odd that someone who has predicted Kawsโ bubble bursting because of 15 years of โCollecting, buying, sellingโ experience doesnโt know what an offset it ๐
