People always try to play up the next big thing. There is no-one making the something even close to the same impact as banksy or even micallef did. In my opinion it is very unlikely there will be another big thing in the forseeable future. The cutting edge artists have shown themselves and time will tell if they rise to the top.
Next big thing aint in Street Art that's for sure. These boys have been around for 10 years plus, and apart from Shep and Banksy, no one has a hope of becoming a household name or of being discussed for any length of time in pop media etc.
Micallef and Neate and Swoon and a fair few others including Lister IMO will do fine in contemporary art land. But no one for a good ten years or so will have any sort of impact to match what's recently happened and I seriously doubt i'll be interested in it when it does break.

I was a little dissapointed actually. He went over a piece I had started just a week earlier, I was arrested halfway thru which sucked, but I planned on completing it until he did his huge mural. oh well.
He lives and has his art studio in williamsburg, Brooklyn....

Personally I like his stuff - especially his superhero stuff - but maybe that's the geek in me. Whether he'll be the next Banksy - no, but I certainly think he's one of the better artists out there.

The problem with artists such as Lister, Micallef, Donwood and even Dan Baldwin is that their work will never connect with a big percentage of the population. I'm not knocking any or those artists work  coz they are all great! ;D but Street/Graffiti art will always get a bigger impact with the population coz its not TELLING people its art does that make sense?
This country is full of millions of people that would never go to Tate Modern or a posh gallery, but they connect with the work of people like Banksy  ;D Thats the reason he has done so well over the last few years. A massive number of the UK population would never want a Hirst on the wall, but would love a Banksy thats the difference!

It certainly holds true in that here, we can ALL appreciate Banksy but have differing views on Lister, Micallef, Donwood and even Hutch.
If we, a biased group of society, that loves our street art and even we have differing opinions then Jo Blow on the street will be even more diverse in their take on whats hot and whats not.

Or at least that's what most fine art collectors, dealers and critics always say to me when I bring it up.
Some artists have done this... Banksy and McGee most notably, I think. On a side note, I think that McGee has probably distanced himself enough to where he isn't even reliant on a street art buyers market anymore (this could be the reason why he is talked about so little on here).
Ultimately there is only so much "cool" that can be sold and an entire art movement can't expect to rest on it forever.
A good book that deals with this is "The Warhol Economy" can't remember the author though
