They just don't want to pay for the current tier as it was far too expensive. |

This tiny one screen image for 6k .. KAWS is literally laughing at this point. Thereโs so many fantastic artist to invest in. Also this isnโt going to flip , they are still available at cost ๐
This is exactly how I feel. I actually like this image and it reminds me of the early KAWS that I grew up seeing, but the price and the edition are painful and it feels like a money grab at this point.
There are so many artists that I'd rather support with $6k and who would be grateful for the support. I could pick up 2-3 decently sized canvases from younger artists who I've been going back and forth with.

Good opportunity for them to pick up signed print, but I think plenty have been bought by speculators, so a rapid appreciation like Presenting the Past and YSNIK is unlikely given the edition size and worldwide release.

To me it says it has been priced to avoid immediate flipping, with the money going where it should. Nobody knows how many have sold, my guess it will sell out soon enough and that with the team KAWS has supporting him they likely know what they are doing, UAA comments notwithstanding.

People would talk that it's not small, but actually perfectly sized and easy to frame. That making the edition high, he, unfortunately unsuccessfully, tried to help his fans to purchase one. That while not cheap, it's the same price as release from other, less popular artist.
That the image maybe doesn't pop but it's a classic Kaws imaginery.
Now 14 hours later, nobody knows what is happening. Did Kaws jump the shark? He only cares about the super rich (this is actually annoying, the portfolio was so cheap, that 150% profit flip is considered a better value), this is a money grab (like he needs one, if it was half the price it would be flipped for the current price), edition is way too large (check people on insta complaining that only 170 people in the world can own the blanket) the image is dull (well maybe a little bit inspiring), we live in art bubble, prices will collapse and the end is near.

For new genuine collectors like myself I am extremely pleased that I was able to purchase one at release. Exactly what I wanted. I have no concern that this will turn out to be a solid investment as well, just instead of it being immediately more valuable you'll have to give it 6 - 12 months. Buy it, hang it, read it, enjoy it. Down the road, re-home it. |
