Shepard Fairey • Obama Prints, by Francis on Mar 12, 2008 19:25:45 GMT 1, I think with these Obama prints they're so in demand because it's not just Fairey fans who want them, it's Obama fans, political/presidential election collectors, so many other people outside of the street/art/obey fanboy collective. 5,000 seems like a lot if only obey fans were interested, but there is such a large group of other people who will be collecting these as well. To me it seems like Obama is going to be the next U.S. president which is going to be history for the United States. There is so much "crossover" collectibility in an Obama art print. Signed/unsigned by Fairey doesn't really matter. Even Faile's "Paypal screwup/refund" print showed that people didn't care if it was signed or not. The Obama print is a nice image. It's a part of history. It is limited to 5,000. And there's a huge (I think) audience for these. Will be very interesting to see how big or small the secondary market will be.
This is just a FYI and is kind of splitting hairs, but the Failes were stamped and numbered and only 90 were made.

Shepard Fairey • Obama Prints, by Michael Jacob on Mar 12, 2008 19:33:19 GMT 1, its still nice to see us able to get a print without too much effort. I spent all day yesterday trying for keyes. I was eating dinner with my family when they finally came and went.
the new obama image isnt as nice as the originally one, but at least its available... for now.

Shepard Fairey • Obama Prints, by oddkabob on Mar 12, 2008 19:40:34 GMT 1, i think it's great that the edition size is so large....i've just stopped even going to the obey site on tuesdays because it was just no longer worth it to me to spend hours with the possibility of maybe getting a print (if the site wasn't so bugged up)
since I'm buying just for my own enjoyment and not for flipping (i don't care if anyone does flip either) but it was just no longer.....enjoyable.
so now it's great to be able to buy a print and not feel like a print buying peon. I tried to get a josh keyes print yesterday and that was a disaster as well....fortunately there's the unlimited tiny print coming out.
These large editions or unlimited prints make enjoying the artwork much more fun again for me which is what drew me into this in the first place.

I think there are other artists (not Fairey) that have contributed artwork to be made as prints. Just my guess, but I think that's what they're suggesting.

What's the point of comments like this people? This is a TOPIC in a FORUM. If you don't care about this topic then don't click on it and read it. Don't waste your time and ours posting pointless posts to let people know you are not interested in this topic.
Move along to the next topic. Simple as that.

bitter bitter...
I didn't think Shep made any money off the posters because he donated the profits to the campaign, and I think the money generated from the "change" print release is about equal to the money generated by a single pay-to-eat dinner function with Obama.

THE NATURE OF THE US POLITICAL SYSTEM MEANS THAT NOTHING WILL EVER CHANGE , BECAUSE NOTHING CAN WITHOUT RECONSTRUCTION OF THE PARTY SYSTEM IN THE USA ITSELF.
BONGO HAS NO BEEF WITH ANY CANDIDATE, AS BONGO DOES NOT KNOW THEM, BUT TO SUGGEST THAT EACH CANDIDATE IS A SLIGHT VARIANT OF THE SAME POLITICAL PROCESS WOULD NOT BE A FACILE COMMENT TO MAKE.
THE OVERUSED ANARCHIST STATEMENT OF " WHOEVER YOU VOTE FOR , THE GOVERNMENT ALWAYS GETS IN " IS MOST APT WHEN SET AGAINST THE US MODEL ITSELF.
BONGO IS DEEPLY WARY OF ANY SYSTEM WHERE PICTURES OF A POLITICAL LEADER ARE BANDIED ABOUT SO READILY. THIS FETISHMENT AND CULT OF PERSONALITY DOES LEAD BONGO TO SUGGEST A REMARKABLE LACK OF OBJECTIVITY THAT GOES HAND IN HAND WITH THE LEVEL OF SOCIETAL MATURITY.
BONGO HAS STUDIED AMERICAN POLITICS IN SOME DEPTH TO HOLD THIS VIEWPOINT.

I respect your view Bongo. I honestly can't purport to have much of an educated insight into this. However, personally, I believe having a Black president in the USA would lead to great change and indeed would be a great change in itself. Whether this will happen within the next decade or two, who knows? I somehow doubt that the USA is ready to accept a Black man as president. I suspect Hilary will increasingly play on this in terms of justifying her campaign.
I do hear your point about the pervasive, distracting and often pathetic cult of personality but I agree with Shep's comments about his Obama prints on the site and feel they justify why this is an important piece of art in the history of the USA.
I think a good counter-print would be one depicting Hilary practising her script whilst sitting on the toilet; thereby demonstrating her dedication to the cause, giving an insight into motions of a clearly hardworking presidential campaigner. It could be called, 'If it floats you've got too much fat in your diet'.

I don't exactly get why you think a black male president would lead to a great change, and then you slag off the white female democratic nomination runner. Would a white female president not lead to a relatively equal change? The truth is Obama and Clinton have pretty much 95% of the same ideas about the USA.
And actually both used scripted tele-prompters when giving speeches.
At least you were upfront about lacking insight into the workings of US politics.
