Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864 - 1901)
In the early 1890's Toulouse-Lautrec made a series of drawings and paintings depicting prostitutes in the brothels of Montmartre and other areas of Paris.
This painting was sketched very rapidly in oil paint greatly thinned with turpentine, on rough cardboard, which gives the dry appearance of pastel.
