BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by silvermyn on Nov 10, 2019 12:23:29 GMT 1, I really think you're missing the point of this whole stunt. This is Banksy! It was supposed to be a bit of a wind-up, and he clearly stated it was going to be disappointing! We all played along, we all dreamed of getting an email, and we all enjoyed the suspense and excitement, but we ultimately got what we were promised: DISAPPOINTMENT! The whole thing's called 'GROSS Domestic Product'! He stated it in the title, he detailed it in the fine print, and...THAT'S WHAT WE GOT! A disappointing experience with regards to some really gross products. I've enjoyed it. I think that it is we (society) who are the Gross Domestic Product. The timing of the Croydon show, which included more than a nod to the plight of some of the world's most desperate people, set against the sale of a painting for £10m was no mistake. It's a pretty obscene juxtaposition. In the same way that the windows in Croydon were. We're too focused on owning bigger and better TVs to realise what's going on in the world when we can do something help. The webshop is an extension of that commentary. You might get something if you're lucky (the lottery) or if you paid attention and were prepared to help financially you were guaranteed a piece (the Love Welcomes Mat). People getting pissed off that they weren't successful is part of what has become quite a revealing social study. (Whether it was intended is another matter). There were hundreds of thousands of entries. The odds were stacked against everyone. You take the chances and you roll with them. Some people are too used to getting what they want, because life is too easy for them. For others, it's much less so. Yes, I get all that and couldn’t agree more. But why does the same message not apply to everyone on friends list? There was a gallery or something posting early on that they got a Tony Tiger piece while the Croydon shop was open and long before the GDP store opened. Was that a bit of pre-lottery luck? Is the GDP message for them different?
I completely disagree with your statement that the odds were stacked against everyone. I’m not sure why you would think otherwise.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by silvermyn on Nov 10, 2019 12:43:40 GMT 1, I think generally, if you're angry that your time was somehow wasted by the whole GDP experience, I strongly suggest you give any future GDP draws a miss. If you feel so disappointed by not winning anything, that it's causing you genuine mental distress or it's negatively impacting on your day-to-day life or relationships, I urge you to not participate in future GDP draws, and instead focus your energy into more positive and easily achievable life goals. If you genuinely believe there's some form of POW/GDP blacklist (and you also believe you're on it), either message them (asking about the existence of said list) or, as a thought exercise, logic your way through the likelihood of that being the case. And if, after that, you remain convinced you've been barred in some way, and nothing but a "win" will convince you otherwise, I implore you to not participate in future GDP draws. As each disappointment will only continue to stoke the fires of your resentment or feelings of persecution. Is what I would say on here if I wanted to sound generally well-meaning but also wanted to improve my odds on future GDP draws. There’s really no need to be so patronising. I’m not the mentally unstable character that you’re making me out to be and I don’t think anyone would appreciate those sort of comment thrown at them for simply sharing their thoughts on a theory that has some legs to it.
Obviously there is no point in me entering future draws under my own name because I think that there is credibility to the s**t list rumours. However, myself and other forum members that believe they have been blacklisted (yes, I’m not alone in thinking there’s a s**t list) will continue to enter via friends and relatives that can’t be traced back to us directly. And it is for this reason that I believe Team Banksy don’t really want to be giving away anything too special to members of the general public.
You can shoot me down and call me all the things in the world you like, but you I don’t think you can argue with the rationality of anything I’ve said on this subject. It makes complete commercial sense for Team Banksy, and I would do the same in their shoes if I was out to control his market.
Sorry, but I think this lottery has been a bit of a con...

I hate to say it, but that's just life. Some folk are in the right place at the right time. Others aren't so fortunate. Some people have money and that gives them one hell of an advantage. Perhaps the message to them was 'you can't have it all, & others deserve a chance'
I've not see the Tony the Tiger claim but it's interesting that you would take that as gospel and not the word of 'the little person'.
If you entered the lottery in the good faith that the rules were the rules, it was a pretty level playing field.

That honestly wasn't aimed at you, and if you feel attacked, please accept my sincere apologies. That wasn't my intention with the post. It was more an attempt at some form of cover-all message for any members (active or lurking) that may feel upset by the whole GDP thing. I absolutely genuinely appreciate that, while many will have seen this is a positive or fun opportunity, others have had a more disappointing and negative time. And for that, I genuinely feel for them, but I believe my points stand. If anyone thinks the GDP draw was unfair, don't participate in it. And if something upsets you, don't do it. What's that gambling saying? When the fun stops.....stop? x
Edit: I should probably add that I have no idea (nor real thoughts) on whether there's a POW/GDP sh*tlist. But I generally believe that the universe is fair in its unfairness, and problems arise if I start looking for genuine moral fairness in it (if that makes sense?). Having said that, I'm a catastrophist (meow), so any day that ends with me not being on fire is a good day. Not only did I not expect to gain artwork, my brain was preparing me to lose artwork I already own. That's how negatively I went into this.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by case on Nov 10, 2019 13:08:07 GMT 1, Incredible that this random list by some poor attention seeking soul is still discussed. I'm on it, too. Not worried. Never owned a Banksy print or item. So if I would have been blacklisted it could only be for the following reasons:
1. Buying a Soup Can at POW closedown. Is on my wall. 2. Heavy drinking at Dismaland Masked Ball. Well, guilty ... 3. My poem in this thread. I'd understand to get blacklisted for that. I'd do the same. But it was worth it.
Now please accept that this list is bulls***. This is all about luck. Of course some VIP will get theirs, but it is insane to at least have a chance to buy stuff like this at affordable prices.

I don’t think I’ve seen any f-ing and blinding over the subject of not having won, or anyone coming across as having mental issues over the subject. That’s why I thought your comments were perhaps aimed at me. I’m sorry if I got the wrong end of the stick there.
If people can’t take the heat, they should get out of the kitchen. Personally, in those situations my preference is to turn up the extractor fan and open a window
I’ll participate in future draws but only via friends and relatives. I can then look forward to being disappointed by proxy, and don’t need to be concerned about having been blacklisted.

But, you can’t say definitively that there isn’t a s**t list. People have had orders cancelled and GDP have said they’re vetting all applications. Vetting them against what, I wonder...?

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by GMA on Nov 10, 2019 13:26:27 GMT 1, What we thinking next? Seems the last lot of emails went out on Wednesday 6th November. First lot seemed to go out on Monday 4th. People get 7 working days to pay which gives people who got offered items on Monday 4th until Wednesday 13th to pay, those who got offered on Wednesday 6th gives them until Friday 15th November.
Now, lets say ALL items have indeed been offered, that would mean next week I wouldnt see any second chance emails going out to people until the following week because those lucky lot still have time to pay. Wouldn't make sense sending anything to others until the following week.
But that's based on all items already being offered. Bit of a brain dump here but that's my thinking.
Alternatively, those winners have until the dates I just mentioned, and any leftover items are still to be offered next week but would seem like a logisitcal nightmare doing it like that. Id have thought they offer the first lot, people pay, people dont pay, then they start again.
So next week, I'm expecting to see sweet fa from anyone with regards to winning emails.

So next week, I'm expecting to see sweet fa from anyone with regards to winning emails.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by Hairbland on Nov 10, 2019 13:30:14 GMT 1, Apologies to all. I wasn’t trying to stir things up yesterday but as some may have gathered, I was a tad annoyed at having wasted my time on the GDP lottery. It began with the “extract” of the s**t list that was posted on page 337 of this thread with my username listed. It might not be the real s**t list, however, such a list has been spoken of on here ever since I’ve been a member and probably before that time. Team Banksy baring a grudge against some members wouldn’t sit well with his image, so I doubt they’d ever admit to having such a list. But there is more than likely a s**t list they have compiled. What’s more, they won’t tell you why you are on the list or how you can get off the list. Also, admitting that they have a list of preferred clients wouldn’t fit with the Banksy image either, but at least they’ve been more transparent about that through letting lots of people jump queues in the old days, the VIP editions and the not so secret “secret” print releases (Dumbo, Love Hurts etc.). Returning to GDP, the problem with the disappointing shopping experience is that they don’t tell you the real reason for why it will be disappointing. The real reasons are possibly that if you’re on the s**t list then you’re automatically disqualified, if you’re on the preferred list then you’re more than likely going to get something and if you’re just a regular member of the public then you stand a very remote chance of getting the scraps from the friends table. Some of those scraps will have some meat on them but you won’t ever get a piece of steak. Now, importantly from the point of view of making work available to the public, does the above model give the Banksy trade mark the protection that it was seeking to achieve through the use of an online shop? His lawyers seem to think so but I suspect that it could be open to challenge if it is proven that this is nothing more than a sham lottery, which promoted plenty but delivered nothing to people on the s**t list and very little to the general public. There’s been plenty in the press about GDP but I’ve not seen a single story in the media about some regular housewife having her name drawn in prize in the lottery. Isn’t that a bit odd in this day and age? I know people are going to say I’m paranoid and equally I could say those people are in denial. But read Casual’s first post on page 351 and tell me, objectively, if you think he comes across as somebody who has just won an amazing prize against the odds, or somebody who was trying to justify winning a prize. I really think you're missing the point of this whole stunt. This is really the point, those that are complaining about not knowing how/if to get something or whether the confusion will hurt the Banksy oeuvre have missed it.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by seamusdorey on Nov 10, 2019 13:36:05 GMT 1, For anyone that visited the Croydon set up, it was fairly obvious what it was about - if you took a few moments to SEE, reflect and actually take notice of the artwork.
I entered the 'experience' with my eyes wide open with no expectations. Didn't win, not disappointed (in ya face Banksy). I'm just happy it happened and I was there to experience it. That's all you can take from all this; if you didn't win. That and the altruistic feeling of donating to others less fortunate.
I think there's far too much entitlement in society and feel sorry for people if they are unable to see how rich their lives already are.
When I wake up feeling a little down in the mornings, I'll often take a moment to count my blessing and be thankful all my limbs function and I'm not waking up in a hospital bed.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by irl1 on Nov 10, 2019 14:20:43 GMT 1, What we thinking next? Sorry if you've been unsuccessful, there will be plenty more opportunities to purchase products in the coming months. If you've registered you will automatically receive a mail telling you about new releases

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by goodfish on Nov 10, 2019 14:21:42 GMT 1, I think generally, if you're angry that your time was somehow wasted by the whole GDP experience, I strongly suggest you give any future GDP draws a miss. As each disappointment will only continue to further stoke the fires of your resentment or feelings of persecution. Is what I would say on here if I wanted to sound generally well-meaning but also wanted to improve my odds on future GDP draws. Oh, that final qualifying statement is so tasty I think most people missed it! I didn't, and I love it!

Is that over €1000 for a folded piece of paper? Magic is real. You get what you pay for.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by drip on Nov 10, 2019 14:24:45 GMT 1, With a shipping/delivery estimate of 3-5 months, I'd be surprised if they were to offer up another batch of items while they're still dealing with the first lot. I am fully open to being surprised by this bunch of art mavericks however.

If you had won in this lottery would you still think the lottery was rigged?

True, that will be a sad day when you nearly have a heart attack seeing the email from GDP only to find its letting you know about the new releases 🤣

I didn't go for the vest but if I did and won it, or any of those more obscure items, I'd be lending them to a museum (Would have to be Bristol) for display for a time, for free of course but with a charity box next to it for the cause.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by Stonetown on Nov 10, 2019 14:42:52 GMT 1, Now we're starting to understand the purpose of all this.
For those who donated to a great cause (and got a little 'welcome' gift) your heart was in the right place. Continue on.
For those that still dont get the purpose of all this effort and maybe behaved badly during the process (and since to each other), please have a read of the short story 'The Lottery' by Shirley Jackson. It's an oldie but a goodie.
GDP matters. Discuss.

Oh right, so (so far) to get the full benefit of the GDP experience you need to have kids, access to Croydon, a sense of humour, internet access, a horsehoe up your arse, to not be on the mythical sh*tlist, and now a pet.
It'd be easier if I just gave Banksy a handjob under a bridge somewhere while crying.
