BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by pellets on Nov 10, 2019 14:44:19 GMT 1, I think the (or a) Stomzy vest should be put on display in the Ghost House. A sculpture or one of the other non-print objects would look dumb in my lil flat. Need to display these things in the right surroundings. I didn't go for the vest but if I did and won it, or any of those more obscure items, I'd be lending them to a museum (Would have to be Bristol) for display for a time, for free of course but with a charity box next to it for the cause.
Your right, seems like the right move. Share it with all. Also might help with insurance costs which may be a burden.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by drip on Nov 10, 2019 14:50:47 GMT 1, I've really enjoyed (other people's emotions are available) the whole GDP thing. I didn't get to Croydon but I enjoyed seeing all the happy faces of those that did. Plus, we got to see a whole bunch of new Banksy work, and the chance (as slim as it might be) to purchase some of the said work. And there's (hopefully) more to come. That's great. A chunk of cash has been raised for Love Welcomes. Awareness as well as cash has been raised. Throw in some laughs, banter and poetry on here as well, I'd say it's been more fun and effective than just an ad campaign or fundraising sale of a canvas somewhere.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by seamusdorey on Nov 10, 2019 14:58:36 GMT 1, 😂 I see you are still interpreting everything through your paranoid goggles.
No PR, just my own genuine feelings and thoughts.
If you had taken the time to check my post on the Introduce yourself thread you'd have been somewhat better informed. I expect you even entered one of my previous giveaways.
For anyone that visited the Croydon set up, it was fairly obvious what it was about - if you took a few moments to SEE, reflect and actually take notice of the artwork. I entered the 'experience' with my eyes wide open with no expectations. Didn't win, not disappointed (in ya face Banksy). I'm just happy it happened and I was there to experience it. That's all you can take from all this; if you didn't win. That and the altruistic feeling of donating to others less fortunate. I think there's far too much entitlement in society and feel sorry for people if they are unable to see how rich their lives already are. When I wake up feeling a little down in the mornings, I'll often take a moment to count my blessing and be thankful all my limbs function and I'm not waking up in a hospital bed. Well put! Comes across as a bit like a hamfisted PR manager trying to do a bit of damage limitation, but your words are not lost of the masses. You’ve been on here less than a month I see. Welcome to the forum!

When I wake up feeling a little down in the mornings, I'll often take a moment to count my blessing and be thankful all my limbs function and I'm not waking up in a hospital bed. Whilst it was fairly obvious (I think) what Croydon was about, it was clear many people were just looking at Stormzy’s stab vest and the other merch and not even bothering with the fourth lifejacket window. I do wonder how many people left without actually picking up what it was about. There wasn’t even a proper discussion on here for a while after it opened... I had been lurking on the main GDP thread for about 80 pages before I saw images of the lifejacket window and was pretty disturbed that I only just saw it. I thought it was just so powerful in the context of everything else going on. I think people tend to mentally discard things that don't make sense or fit a tidy world view.
It really kind of screwed me up for a few days because I realized I was missing the most important thing about GDP because I was focused on the wrong things. It's part of why I bought one of the Love Welcomes mats.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by seamusdorey on Nov 10, 2019 15:08:39 GMT 1, I gave Banksy a handjob and all I got was this lousy stain.
I am looking forward to the next round, that's for sure. Will that be the Pet Portraits? Maybe it will be possible to send in a picture of your own pet and they choose the funniest ones as a tiebreaker. Oh right, so (so far) to get the full benefit of the GDP experience you need to have kids, access to Croydon, a sense of humour, internet access, a horsehoe up your arse, to not be on the mythical sh*tlist, and now a pet. It'd be easier if I just gave Banksy a handjob under a bridge somewhere while crying.

I think its an interesting point of discussion, at what level of success is an artist no long a (wo)man of the people and has become a fat cat/out of touch? What is the optimal level of success for an artist to still be considered “legit”?
Who are some example of artists who have walked this narrow path?
Im interested to hear what people think but i imagine many thought of Banksy as an artist who was staying true to his (/they’re) values despite success.

F U I think it (might be?) a different experience if you were looking at the GDP draw as a way to win a valuable item, than if you looked at it as a way to win a piece of art merch by an artist you admire (that just happens to also be worth a big pile of clams).
But people view things from different viewpoints (and circumstances) all the time. One person's 'Hey, I'm on fire!' is another person's hand-warming opportunity. I'm terrible at analogies though, so I don't know.

The cynicism could go further in this is a PR campaign riding on the back of charities to promote the artist and make some massive sales. Banksy has been stealing editorial (column inches) from environmental groups and charities for years. I guess it’s much like the bands, with the sole exception of Pink Floyd, who kept all their earnings from the rise in sales after the Live 8 gig..

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by biglebowski on Nov 10, 2019 18:01:07 GMT 1, Imaging what it would be like if there was a forum for national lottery and scratchcard enthusiasts:
'it's so unfair I invested so much hope into winning 150 million and didn't win, what a waste of my time'
'do you know how much energy I put into my right hand scratching this card only to win nothing. I will reserve my wrist strength for more personal endeavours'
'I did my lottery numbers online and still didn't win. How dare they collect my data like this'
I hope my sarcasm isn't lost on some people. I'm sure it will be. This GDP thread has really brought out a funny bunch of folk... The snowflake TV feels even more poignant!
