Can't imagine a little online card company has deep pockets for lawyers and prolonged legal battles. Also boggles the mind that they'd attempt to license hordes of intellectual property they very clearly don't own. It could all just be a ploy- BIGGIE posted something from before Dismaland predicting or hinting at GDP back in 2015. So it seems like this has been in the works for a while.

At Sotheby's I heard someone official-looking say that DP was "believed" to be being sold by Banksy himself, and given the changes that have been made to it, the timing of its sale and the loan to Bristol museum, I'd be very surprised if that wasn't the case, whatever he says on Instagram.
I was there when an offical Sotheby's rep was seemingly giving a tour to a group. I tried to eavesdrop but didn't get everything so take this with a grain of salt.
Someone asked if this was being sold by Banksy direct and he flatly said no, it belonged to a private collector.
However Banksy apparently asked for it back before it went to auction so he could make some alterations. He didn't give any explanation as to why.
No idea if that's the truth or not.
[Edit - just read the NY Times article where it says basically the same thing. So their messaging is at least consistent.]

Most artists get to a stage in their career when they "Farm out" work and bring in assistants, and it's pretty obvious to all that Banksy has had assistance from the very early days, so how come none of these myriad of assistants have come forward to spill their guts to the press for a few quid?! Simple, when you're employed by an artist, especially one as high profile as this you will sign an airtight N.D.A. as part of your employment contract. Most artists employed in this manner would not risk their future career or sales for the sake of some attention, none would be that naive and/or stupid. Banksy is a cash cow to a LOT of Galleries and to lie about creating work or breaking the N.D.A. would result in you being blacklisted in/by the Gallery circuit.
So therefore, if any "Artists" have insinuated that they're responsible for painting this piece it's pretty much a safe bet that they're lying as a pathetic attempt at an oxygen grab of attention. My money is on a hired assistant straight from art school who has been with him for a long time, possibly as early as crude oils era? A few of the "Artists" that have thrown there names in the ring are known for manipulating photos digitally, making a giclee/digital print and then adding paint to certain areas to create a "Painterly" effect, but strangely, none of the styles, brush marks match any of the works from the people who've said they did the work.
