BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by Deleted on Oct 6, 2019 16:57:42 GMT 1, I am glad that this project has finally been launched. Went down to look the other day. I have to say the Flower Chucker was a real stand out for me. Looks beautifully made. ... Mammal, are you going to repost the "f**kingSwoon" YouTube video?...... Pretty please with sugar on top!
It died on an old laptop of mine. Sorry!

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by Guy Denning on Oct 6, 2019 17:06:25 GMT 1, Where did you hear that Rembrandt didn't paint the Night**tch by himself? I can't find any accredited reference to support that. As to your second statement... that only applies to a small (VERY small) subset of art production. De Volkskrant. (serious) Dutch newspaper. Straight through google translate: Rembrandt did not paint everything on De Nachtwacht itself In the room in the Rijksmuseum, research is being done into what the famous painter did. Gijs Beukers8 January 2019, 22:25 The restoration of Rembrandt. RV image - Katrien Keune, a chemist and member of the Rijksmuseum's research and restoration team, is painting her house. The part of the plinth behind her cupboard is yellow and needs a thorough turn, while the rest of the plinth is still fresh white, Paint discolors, Keune (42) wants to say. Even the paint used on one of the world's most famous paintings. For example, white clouds circle above the dog on De Nachtwacht, while Rembrandt is unlikely to have painted them there. To find out what Rembrandt (1606-1669) did paint, De Nachtwacht will be examined this summer. Based on the results, the research and restoration team decides how the militia piece will be restored. Both the research and the restoration take place in the Rijksmuseum's room. How is such an investigation going? Use is made of the macro-X-ray fluorescence scanner (in short: MA-XRF), a device that was designed in 2008 by Joris Dik of TU Delft and Koen Janssens of the University of Antwerp. The most important parts are the X-ray tube and the detector, which are mounted on a motorized frame. The X-rays come on the painting, which releases energy. The detector measures the energies, and that information can be used to determine from which metal the energy comes. Based on this, it can be determined which pigment and therefore which paint has been used - paint contains one or more types of pigment. Lead, for example, points to white pigment, iron to red. Not only the pigments on the surface are shown, but also those that were later painted over. "It's great that you get so much insight into how an artist makes a composition, what changes he still makes to it," says Keune. "You get the story of the artwork. For example, the scan by Marten and Oopjen showed that Rembrandt first painted a gate in the background, and later replaced it with a curtain. " The MA-XRF costs 265 thousand euros and scans 80 by 60 centimeters per day. The Night Watch measures 363 by 438 centimeters, so the investigation takes approximately eight weeks. Then the restoration follows. There is a good chance that the clouds above the dog will disappear. "But," says Keune, "the results are valuable in themselves, even if they don't come in handy right away with the restoration." Thanks for that. I've been following the restoration but I hadn't heard this. I won't go into depth as it's off subject on this thread, but it will be interesting to see if they're talking about later over-painting (perhaps for covering damage) or actual contemporaneous artists working within Rembrandt's circle. We'll have to wait and see! It would seem odd to invoke a 'studio approach' for a work and then still take three years to make it (I know it's big!). Cheers again.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by Deleted on Oct 6, 2019 17:08:05 GMT 1, I think if the clocks are 25k that would be a good deal. that be 3.75 million. Adding the Stormzy stab vest unlimited tee shirts. What's he buying Steve Jobs boat Venus that cost 100 million. The whole project will raise about a million. Enough to buy a refugee boat.

I was in university when a good majority of you were getting Banksy works at a very affordable price. I still couldn’t afford it back then.
My situation now is different. I don’t see how my estimates are unreasonable given the grappling hooks were around 40k. Am I wrong?
25k is not a bargain for me btw but I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase at that price.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by Forbidden Love on Oct 6, 2019 17:35:32 GMT 1, Went down there today, great to see it all in person. If I come away with something, great. If I don't then still great as I got to see it in person. It's all exciting and definitely some bits I would love to own.
Banksy does a great job of mixing humour and some dark realities. Very good.

If he really wanted to milk the general public as this art forum is not a snapshot of the general public when it comes to banksy he'd be charging 100 pounds a spray can and people would still buy. There just trying to scare others away Roy into thinking no point bothering as cannot afford that fake price they made up while shopping in Tesco.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by Deleted on Oct 6, 2019 19:20:57 GMT 1, I think with the popularity he has there is almost no way to achieve what he wants. The more he fights against the "establishment", the more popular he gets. The more he gets popular the higher the prices rise.
Of course he could try something like: - Increasing the PC COA fee exponentially per resale of an individual work - Or increasing the time for transfer of ownership exponentially per transfer of an individual work
This would discourage speculation and fast resale, but still the more popular he gets...
The two last things, if you really want to stay out of the "art elite" are probably increasing the edition size, e.g. sell an edition of 2000 for 2000 each, or quitting the business. :/
Tbh, I'm horribly late in caring about artists like him. I didn't do for a long time, because I didn't care for the message they're trying to send. A couple of things happened. I understand now and it really appeals to me.
Anyways. I'd be happy to be one of the lucky ones to hang one of the wall pieces in my little home, if not it'll have to be a T-Shirt. Maybe he has a monkey T-Shirt I could add to the collection of my Modeselektor T-Shirts.

That’s to much money for a clock dude. People paying 250k for a print. 25k for an edition of 150 is reasonable.
The edition of 25 grappling hook sculpture was 45k with a hand stenciled box and painted crucifix. Theres not a chance that a edition of 150 clock, will be 25k... even though some of the rat is hand applied.
