Just go cold turkey. Stop smoking in one blow. Do it today, or tomorrow. Or pick a symbolic time, like January 1st. Smoke as much as you can until your chosen moment of quitting. But do quit at the moment you chose. Stay honest with yourself. Forget about nicotine patches, nicotine gum, pills etc. They just warp you into another addiction. And they cost quite a lot of money. Do not care about what other people say. Their opinion is totally and utterly unimportant. You quit, you have to do it yourself. Without any external help.

And when you long for a cigarette find some distraction. The longing only lasts for about 30-60 seconds. If you preoccupy your mind with something else in during those seconds the longing will fade away. Those moments of longing will get less and less in the days and weeks to come. Hold that for a month and you made your first step into quitting.
