Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by Daniel Silk on Oct 6, 2019 5:22:50 GMT 1, This thread is for discussions on the release of the Banksy Basquiat Print via Gross Domestic Product.
From experience of past Banksy print releases, it’s a good idea to start a thread now, so we can keep it all tidy in one thread, coz it’s sure to become a long long rambling saga! 😁

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by d.r. perseus on Oct 6, 2019 5:55:04 GMT 1, JMB is what sparked my interest in collecting and painting myself even with a background and growing up with art. Love the piece but not sure how to interpret it.
The ride to me speaks to at minimum the large collective of Basquiat I’ve seen where I get to see the art but for a moment, but owning actual art by him being impossible and therefore transient....an experience I only get to enjoy for but a moment.

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by teabaggins on Oct 6, 2019 5:57:04 GMT 1, For the sake of discussion. I really enjoyed this work in its original placement at the Barbican. While I do love the image, I can’t help feeling like it loses a little something in print form without the contextual placemat outside the JMB exhibit. Still good but not at all the same punch imo..

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by pellets on Oct 6, 2019 7:39:47 GMT 1, Could it also be a comment on how many people include JMB crown in their art work? It seems to function as a nod to a great but also as a cheap way for people to create the appearance that they have deep street art roots.

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by Daniel Silk on Oct 6, 2019 7:42:52 GMT 1, Maybe it sounds silly, but I do like square prints 😂 I think when it’s square the shape doesn’t catch your eye away from the image, also they display nice when framed.

Lottery usually means price is low. First come, first served: Price is usually high.
My guess: some sort of lottery. Price 1000-1500

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by iamzero on Oct 6, 2019 9:09:06 GMT 1, Love the fact he’s done this as a print as a nod to John Michael Basket and not the the figure being searched. Wondering if the VIP edition would included the crowns being hand drawn?
The CYW was a Haring tribute and this JMB... who next?
Hoping for a lottery as I was lucky enough to get the Sale Ends but I think it’s probably the best way to level the playing field. Those that argue it should favour old time forum members should remember many of them cashed out on Banksy long ago and made money from doing it so I’m not sure how this makes them any more or less fans of Banksy than any of us that weren’t savvy enough to buy in the early days.

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by mutatis on Oct 6, 2019 9:53:50 GMT 1, Just as the Banksy painting at the Barbican was based on Basquiat's Boy and Dog ... I think the print is a nod to the Ferris Wheel that Basquiat designed for Andre Heller's amusement park/art museum Luna Luna which inspired Dismaland and the use of the crowns is ironic as they act as a visual cliche identifying Basquiat.
Excuse the quality of the photos taken from the book

So people should be ‘rewarded’ for either having enough disposable cash to travel to the WOH or having the time or lifestyle to get there? Stinks of us and them to me. Having very young twins changes the way I buy things, art and holidays... it doesn’t change how I feel about being a diehard Banksy fan... However I much I understand where your sentiment comes from.

It could be argued that they have already been ‘rewarded’ with stamped posters and box sets that many long time die hard Banksy fans have already made a profit on by selling on.
