Banksy RAT Print, Gross Domestic Product , by Atelier on Jan 13, 2022 19:56:41 GMT 1, Please elaborate. might save some people wasting a lot of money. As i said i've seen hundreds of these being printed. There is not a failsafe way to tell a fake, easiest way is to directly compare in person to an original however there are signs that can help you. I'm sure there are other posts on here that do a better job of describing how to spot an original GDP Rat but here are things to look out for:
- Paper stock - color and thickness - this is an off yellow cheap newsprint stock. Paper is specific so try to get detail pics of the stock and how the black ink sits on that stock.
- Look at the blackness of the ink of the Rat and the tiny splatters, these are generally consistent. "off" blacks or missing or noticeably different splatters are signs of fakes.
- One good way to identify fakes are from the back. The printing process created a crude embossing and warping of the paper around the shape of the rat. This exact look is harder to fake.
- Sizing has been reported to be slightly varied but in general around 504mm (19 7/8 inches) x 384mm (15 3/16 inches)
Pics for reference. One is of my own rat but thanks to whoever provided me these other pics. I forget now.
I hope helpful to anyone about to throw money away to all the rats that have been pumped out on ebay. Still feel these are a great buy if you can get a real one as all that differentiates these from other unsigned Banksy prints is there being no edition number or Pest Control COA however in 50 years time probably won't mean much. Warhol has a ton of prints out there much like the rat that became very collectible. Do not plan on selling mine anytime soon so I do not care on the (lack of) value, they look really cool if well framed and on the wall.

Banksy RAT Print, Gross Domestic Product , by sandinista on Jan 14, 2022 13:43:51 GMT 1, It's printed on newsprint which every screen printer uses on every print they do. They print on this ahead of printing onto expensive paper. Its pretty much the same stuff wherever you go so you can't differentiate the paper. It will all go yellow eventually. Regarding the black you can get differences in the original related to pressure, screen flooding, amount of medium mixed in etc so again not a definitive. Re the specs etc, you only need an hi res pic or an original to create a positive exactly the same so image if not definitive either and even the real ones could have some smudges, extra flecks etc.

I've seen fakes and they are easy to spot. There were not 10's of thousands of these given out so unless there is a good provenance story too, my guess the majority on ebay are fake. Any seller selling multiples on ebay 2 years on is questionable. Best approach would be to buy from a trusted seller on this platform.

I concur, this one looked very fake. If the seller is on here, I hope they will find reason to change their ways

Ditto. For those of us across the pond, fleabay was the only way to get one. I was fortunate enough to acquire a couple as well in the immediate chaos and confusion of the initial "drop".

Don’t get me wrong, not trying to derail the post. I’m just curious what the general consensus is regarding pricing?

I’m just curious what the general consensus is regarding pricing? I recognise these have flat lined at the moment on price (the usual peaks and troughs). Looking at the market 1,700 looks fair, what do others think? I'm always willing to negotiate within reason if someone really wants to close a deal. So make me an offer peeps!

But that wouldn’t help their agenda 🙄
Like someone else said, peaks and troughs, as with all other Banksy ephemeral items. If only considering this within its monetary value, I feel these will easily be more valuable in the future. The recent spate of awful fraudulent copies of all posters have certainly had an impact, but still some lovey entry pieces for collectors.

Banksy RAT Print, Gross Domestic Product , by iamzero on Feb 13, 2022 16:26:04 GMT 1, These items that can not be verified with pest control but are genuine Banksy releases will have their day. Places like Castle Gallery that have a good client list and trust Andy to spot a fake will be able to buy with confidence. Time will tell.

That's clearly an outlier, there are plenty of mugs out there but I'd hope people on this board were a little more savvy. And I have no agenda I was selling these for £2-2.5k during the peak and still have 4 in my portfolio so if anything I should be saying £1,700 is a bargain, I just don't believe people should get mugged off on this board if people want to over charge go to ebay or setup a gallery.

The Greased Piglet you state you don't have an agenda, you say that you was trading these for double the price during the peak and you still have 4 in your portfolio and yet are adamant that they are worth 1k max. I don't know about anyone else my fellow members but something doesn't add up here with this chap....smells a bit ratty!
I've had a number of offers with screenshots sent to me of ebay auctions showing sales at 500 600 etc etc, the key piece of information they leave out here is that they are all in absolutely shocking condition (rips, tears, stains and crippled to death) and or being shipped from other side of the world. One would argue based on the condition they are worth nothing let alone £500, moral of the story peeps it is all relative. So please no more £500/ £600 offers with ebay screenshots, just go and buy it on ebay instead :-)

If youre so confident it's worth more put it up for a £1 auction on ebay and post the link.

Some aspects to it look good, but personally I'd want to see some more photos.
