Banksy Welcome Mat, by Inknart on Jan 22, 2021 21:57:30 GMT 1, Despite the fact that they have said otherwise? Well they're contradicting themselves aren't they so yes. Why bother making it possible to authenticate them if it will never be needed? It has a cost associated with it. Keeping the records etc. Even LW contradicts themselves on the faq page...
It's not an edition, but may or may not be limited, but they won't be made forever....
"It is not an “edition” as we can only make as many as we have the materials for, so at this time we cannot say that the product is limited or unlimited. They won’t last forever...."

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Woodey1001 on Jan 22, 2021 22:11:10 GMT 1, Also cost price for the wall sections is higher in some cases than his prints (+£500). There is no difference in artistic value, apart from hand painting and much lower editions on wall sections. Both commercial editions, sold from source. Banksy/PC do not view them as tat for sure. They weren't selling them at £10 a pop! I get the feeling PC views wall sections and mats very similarly. Neither will ever get a COA, they're both authentic banksy designed/licensed piece, and they'll likely never command the kind of $$$ that limited edition prints will command.
I disagree.not sure on price long term but they are designed to be authenticated at some point and a relatively low edition to any of the prints. Also the Walled off hotel isn't finished yet anytime soon. As that progresses they'll become much more sought after.

I certainly wouldnt
What's in it for them?
They were sold as souvenirs, people chose to buy or not to buy them, why do you think they owe owners of them?

They were sold as commercial, authentic Banksy editions. Not tat. They downplayed the Banksy connection to play the flippers that's all.
Think about the prints. Pow was setup to undermine the art market and sell affordable art blablabla. Prints for £50 blabla.
Not anymore- for those prints. Now Banksy is selling directly via Southebys and for the prints providing authentication which only functions to drive his prices up in the market they were meant to undermine.
The Walled off editions are more likely a PC COA than the POW prints ever were ffs😂
If the walled off souvenirs are tat what are the prints??

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Charlie Bronson on Jan 22, 2021 22:34:07 GMT 1, Each mat is also unique/handmade and comes with an invoice with the buyer’s info, address etc. Can’t see how the mats would be any easier to fake than a plastic wall piece. The wall pieces would be easier to fake imho. A simple mold and some paint is all you’d need. They are all unique with different markings front back and bottom. All this is photographed by the hotel so as authentication can be made without a doubt when presented with the paperwork. They are very detailed also, in the sculpture and have little differences with rocks and knocks etc. You can't fake a wall piece, by design. The mats arent designed like that. To be authenticated. They're a charity buy.
They’re all unique, which in fact makes them easier to fake as there is no master mold/sculpture to base authenticity off of. With individual wall pieces being unique, you wouldn’t have one to compare the fake to. Maybe I’m a pessimist, but I don’t see the hotel helping anyone calling to authenticate a wall piece for sale on the secondary market. I just don’t see that happening. They’re a hotel, not PC.

How do you know that? Quite an assumption. Also, I don’t see PC touching this with a ten foot pole. They’ve already got their hands full with a very limited staff pre-Covid. The last thing they’ll do is take on the authentication of memorabilia. Ain’t happening.
Someone with a wall piece, give it a try. Call the hotel(is any staff there right now?) and see the response. I don’t see it happening.

Believe what you want. PC is not “all over it”. How many wall pieces have been sold? Thousands? You honestly think PC will take that burden upon themselves? Have you ever communicated with them? Getting a print authenticated/COA is like pulling teeth.

3000 the book said in total. So alot less than the prints. Maybe even the same as a single print edition.
In total, about the same as the mat. 🤷.
They are rare, official Banksy multiples designed for it, they will get authenticated by hotel or PC

Why authenticate the prints or any art work ever?... Look whatever. These are actually designed to be authenticated for a reason. That's the whole argument.

You have to take a pic of a bit of rock from 18 angles, label each dimension, then take 10 pics of each wall section, they will then kindly, and just for You, tie this up all these pics and tell you
a) it's a genuinely made wall section made by a local in Palestine.
or

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Woodey1001 on Jan 22, 2021 23:02:30 GMT 1, The box sets are signed and numbered, but can only be seen after they are completely submerged in water. Some of the wall sections have secret pieces of paper inside that gives you a unique url to purchase an unreleased signed Banksy print. You have to use a lot of force to get it to shatter the right way, though.
They are numbered. You have to take them out the frame and look on the back. Not signed. Just numbered. In pencil. The wall sectioned are numbered on the base. Both match numbers on the ticket etc etc. All for authentication.
Why else???
Tat. What you buy in Times Square or Picadilly circus doesn't have this stuff. Unique identifiers. There is a difference. A big difference. You are on the wrong forum.

Early walls and box sets are not numbered. The very first don’t even have a proper invoice.

Meh. So what. Not huge numbers.
You think Pest Control had nothing to do with it changing?

Still waiting to see if you’re confident enough about these receiving Pest Control COA’s in the next 3/5 years to place a £500 bet on it for charity?
If you’re right I’ll happily pay £500 to a charity of your choice.
Yeah........ You have to take a pic of a bit of rock from 18 angles, label each dimension, then take 10 pics of each wall section, they will then kindly, and just for You, tie this up all these pics and tell you a) it's a genuinely made wall section made by a local in Palestine. or B) Please stop wasting their fucking time And the prints... genuinely made in the back arse of a London warehouse. So what. Your point sucks Still waiting to see if you’re confident enough about these receiving Pest Control COA’s in the next 3/5 years to place a £500 bet on it for charity? If you’re right I’ll happily pay £500 to a charity of your choice.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Woodey1001 on Jan 22, 2021 23:12:46 GMT 1, Well it completely pisses on your 5 points of authentication theory.
No it doesn't. They didn't put it in place to start with. So what. Why did they quite quickly?? Why not leave it as it was.
Most of them are all numbered up, tagged and recorded. Alot of extra work and cost for absolutely no reason eh 👋👋👋🙄

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Woodey1001 on Jan 22, 2021 23:16:07 GMT 1, Well they're contradicting themselves aren't they so yes. Why bother making it possible to authenticate them if it will never be needed? It has a cost associated with it. Keeping the records etc. You’re delusional.
How? That seems logical, no? Not delusional.

I didn't get any then because of the flippers but I am picky on the editions I buy i.e only Banksy images etc. But I've been out there twice and bought over the last few years off eBay mainly.
I was out there the day he announced the stall at the excel. That was fun. The staff were so excited in the bar 😂
