It’s not so much “dust” as fibres from the mat. They definitely shed and you’ll notice it even just getting it home from the framer. I’m not conscious of there being significant shedding over the months mine has been framed but there are fibres. Someone posted in this thread with an innovative approach taking by their framer with almost a false backing which will allow you to almost manipulate them to hide. Not sure how successful that’s been but an interesting and fairly unique approach (to the best of my knowledge).

Honestly, I think I’ll just learn to live with it. It’s a really heavy piece framed up and, having had it professionally framed (and sealed) at some expense, I don’t think it’s worth the potential issues of me removing the backing (nor the hassle).

It would be a lovely problem to have run out of genuine life jackets but, unfortunately, looking at the stats, they are still far from that point.
