Will it be there for good?
Yeah the plan is to sink it into the floor below the reinforced glass block Trying to figure out the backing material, how to make sure there is no dust down there as once it’s sealed it’s sealed and how to create a gap between the glass and the mat itself

Great idea, check with your structural engineer or your builder. For instance , if your ground floor concrete slab is 110-150mm thick you will need to keep the same thickness below the mat (for waterproofing). The Mat is say 30mm deep (allow 35mm), then you need to order thickened glass, 20mm? and add that depth in. So say 55mm all up so you drop the slab in that area, you will also need a recess in the slabs perimeter for the glass to rest on, or if you have timber floor or tile? fix the glass on top of slab and have floor finish run into it. Also you can buy clear waterproof sealer coating, apply that and it keeps it clear and no concrete dust.
Great idea and hopefully you can get it to work 👍.

Thanks and yes that’s the idea The glass is 33mm reinforced 3 layer so I reckon we need to go down 65mm with a recessed perimeter This is the best time to try it as we have ground workers , joiners and an engineer on site so it’s now or never Worth a go !

It sounded so simple when we started Meeting on site tomorrow to see if we can figure it out If not it’s going in a coffee table but the floor would be the way to do it and I guess as intended by the artist for maximum effect

The only photo I’ve seen of one set into the ground was one shared in the examples of framed (or displayed) mats thread. This is the only one we collectively seemed to unearth but it’s not set as per the suggestion here which, in my opinion, would be exponentially better than this one!

That may be the one I’m remembering. I agree, not a good looking display. For some reason I thought I saw a picture of one in a wooden floor room, set into the floor with plexi/acrylic on top of it. I may be imagining it tbh.

Looks great! I've managed to find the same table online. The dimensions under the glass is bang on 40cm, same as the mat... Does it go in or is it a push?
