Banksy Welcome Mat, by mmmike on Oct 22, 2019 12:42:13 GMT 1, So I've received the confirmation email and the charge is back on my card. I also have a follow up email from them confirming My order is good. So it looks like I will get one.
I for one hope they produce these until people come to their senses and open borders and solve the refugee crisis. I hope the mats will raise millions, employ thousands and owning one become a symbol of not being a racist p*ick, rather than a just a thirsty street art collector.
Good luck to everyone who is after one but more so good luck to all the refugees out there with very uncertain futures.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by pfffffffffft on Oct 22, 2019 13:16:26 GMT 1, These aren’t art. Sure there’s a concept, design and fabrication behind them. But they are no more art then my Joanna Gaines placemats.

I mean am I wrong? It’s not sour grapes. It’s reality.
Doesn’t mean the idea isn’t great.

Aw, I just think you've been a bit salty about the entire GDP project. Every time I see a post from you it's complaining about something and you seem a bit sour about things.
There was a post a couple of pages back that I thought succinctly summed it up:
The concept is strong and meaningful. In context with the jacket, it's very clear. It's tougher to understand as a stand alone piece without the jacket to me anyway. Or unless you're told how the "Welcome" is stitched.
It's art, it's subjective. I think comparing it to a Chip & Joanna Gaines holiday mat is a bit absurd. More absurd that you know who Joanna Gaines is.
But you've made your feelings known...a few times now. It's just starting to sound a bit sour rather than feeling like it's an earnest attempt at discussion of the piece/show. xo

How dare you throw shade at Joanna Gaines!
The mat is great I’ve said it.
But playing it off as a limited edition banksy art piece is wrong. That’s my comment

The venn diagram of people who know/like Joanna Gaines and also are massive street art fans must be very very very small.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by withnail69 on Oct 22, 2019 14:27:05 GMT 1, Name and shame, happily call them a c**talso Pointless to name and he's already shamed himself. There may well be other grounds for holding back. But of the two you've cited, I am unclear about the reasoning for the first, and would qualify the second. 1. Pointless to nameWhy so? To name someone who's taken part in what could be deemed repellent behaviour — like profiteering off the back of a CIC (community interest company) project — is to shine a light on them. When people have a financial interest in behaving dishonourably, yet nevertheless refrain from doing so, it's typically for one of two principal reasons. Either: (i) they are honourable; or (ii) they dread the consequences (including reputational damage) of being seen to act dishonourably. For those who find themselves in group (ii), the risk of being openly accused can therefore serve as an effective deterrent. Now, one of your objectives might be to discourage the kind of behaviour you've described above. If that is the case, then there is a logic to naming individual transgressors. Publicity is justly commended as a remedy for social and industrial diseases. Sunlight is said to be the best of disinfectants; electric light the most efficient policeman. — Louis Brandeis 2. he's already shamed himselfNo disagreement here. However, in the context of "name and shame", the verb "shame" refers less to an individual's shameful behaviour than to the penalty it should incur. That penalty is a social one — shaming. And it's the public nature of shaming which is crucial. If everyone were kept ignorant about the identity of those who behaved poorly, then there'd be no real incentive for transgressors to stop. What it would also say to others who lack scruples is that they too can do the same, without fear of scrutiny — and without fear of being held publicly accountable. Such a message would be unfortunate, in my view. __________ Presumably, you were referring to the eB ayer, trainerhype, an account I wasn't familiar with: feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=trainerhypeI don't know who trainerhype is on this message board. But based on their completed eB ay sales, it doesn't seem unfair to suggest they appear unburdened by decency. www.ebay.co.uk/sch/trainerhype/m.html?LH_Complete=1 I would have got the first two banned just on key word spamming alone

Banksy Welcome Mat, by barbarabush on Oct 22, 2019 15:09:48 GMT 1, lets talk statistics each mat costs £500 thus in my line of work - I would say that each mat takes 2 days to complete 500 in first order - thus lets say they had 100 prepared in advance thus 400 to complete - or 800 man /women days of work. with 15 people working you would need say nearly 3 months to complete the 400 balance. if say 2000 people world wide signed up that 4000 man / women days average month 21.63 days per person - you could be waiting over a year to receive one if you have signed up for the mailing list I expect they will just hire more people to make them and hence the wait time will be less. Great cause, just add yourself to the waitlist and you'll get one at £500 eventually and help the charity. thanks for the tip but I had one in the basket but wanted a shot at something else and was unsure in the mayhem of what . Could or could not be purchased from GDP . Only a day earlier I’d made a reasonable donation to choose.love but you weren’t to know that.... hiring more people . That’s the whole point . The lead time is based upon an estimate of how long and how much effort goes into each one .

Banksy Welcome Mat Waiting List.
Dear friend,
I wanted to send you an email to say that we are sorry you were not able to purchase a Banksy Welcome Mat in the first batch to be created, but we have added you to the waiting list for the next batch.
We have been overwhelmed by the interest in the mats and our work giving refugee women a brighter future. We really value your support.
This collaboration with Banksy has helped refugees to find self worth, dignity and hope. Living in a refugee camp shouldn’t stop your dreams, this is keeping hope alive.
When the next batch of mats are released then we will email the waiting list first to let you know. Sadly we can’t guarantee a mat for everyone on the list as demand is so high, but we will at least be able to inform you first. At this point in time we do not have a date for the next batch to be released.
If you want to be kept updated on our work then you are also welcome to join our newsletter list lovewelcomes.org/pages/newsletter
Each time you buy a Love Welcomes product you’re supporting a refugee and their family as they begin to rebuild lives shattered by war, one stitch at a time.
Thank you for your support,
Yours sincerely,
Abi, Co-founder, Love Welcomes

Banksy Welcome Mat, by churchwood on Oct 22, 2019 16:15:09 GMT 1, Can you please post the mail,... didn‘t get it. A friend of mine forwarded me the email - This is conformation of being on the waitlist- 'When the next batch of mats are released then we will email the waiting list first to let you know. Sadly we can’t guarantee a mat for everyone on the list as demand is so high, but we will at least be able to inform you first. With 'Sadly we can’t guarantee a mat for everyone on the list' i'd assume not. As I said earlier, I hope they continue making these into perpetuity. It's a powerful piece of art with a powerful message. Read more: urbanartassociation.com/posts/recent#ixzz634s1wAxi Based on the email above that someone posted- looks like these aren't unlimited after all or I am reading that wrong.
SO many GDP threads that it is hard to keep up but based on this - I would have said they are making the initial 500 that were accounted for on Day 1, then any orders after the first 500 go onto a waiting list that will only remain open for a limited time

Waiting list for Banksy Mat Want to change how you receive these emails? You can update your preferences or unsubscribe from this list. A word to people bidding/buying these on eBay there are two scenarios that can happen 1. The mat is unlimited in which case you will be shipped your mat at a vastly increased price 2. The mat is limited or has some extra bonus etc in which case you will receive a refund from the seller who will refuse to honour the transaction. Either way you will not be getting a good deal. Join the waiting list and try to get one from source. Doesn't sound "Unlimited" to me. " Sadly we can’t guarantee a mat for everyone on the list as demand is so high"

Banksy Welcome Mat, by dilu on Oct 22, 2019 16:20:17 GMT 1, I’m of the view if these item sell and sell well they’ll keep on selling to meet the demand and if they can go from employing 8 or 9 people to any number more they will as it’s all about giving back dignity to individuals who have fallen in hard times and looking at the new developments in Turkey, soon the numbers in Greece will be swelled by Kurds.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Daylight Robber on Oct 22, 2019 16:22:49 GMT 1, Based on the email above that someone posted- looks like these aren't unlimited after all or I am reading that wrong. SO many GDP threads that it is hard to keep up but based on this - I would have said they are making the initial 500 that were accounted for on Day 1, then any orders after the first 500 go onto a waiting list that will only remain open for a limited time My reading of it is that you can put your name down on the list and they will email you to tell you when they have more for sale. I don't think that being on the list guarantees exclusivity, or indeed the option to buy ahead of anyone else, just that they'll let you know first.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Winter on Oct 22, 2019 16:27:50 GMT 1, Anyone’s guess. They may produce a second batch, put them on the website then send one email out to everyone on the waiting list at the same time and when they’re gone they’re gone. Saves someone the hassle of working through a list.

I just don't know why they wouldn't take pre-orders and not guarantee a delivery date if they were actually "Unlimited." Could easily have said due to production times, these will be delivered sometime in 2020. That way they're able to benefit charity and add more resources simultaneously.

Yes blank paper isn’t unlimited either in reality.
Better start collecting blank paper.

Probably cause they don’t want thousands of people who paid 500 pounds to e-mail them every week asking when they are getting their mat when in reality their mat might not be produced for a year cause they are number 9125 in the queue.
Taking pre sale for thousands of mats would be straight up dumb.

I know plenty of people who order items much more expensive that have year or longer waits for delivery. What would happen would be 90% of people cancelling once they actually found out it was unlimited, because they would no longer be interested.

Absolutely, so many rude people on this forum now, who can't just have an opinionated discussion without making it personal. I have customers who wait 2+ Years for a 30k Product daily. So I guess I should go back to business school and get my degrees over again. Setting expectations deters unnecessary follow up. Create supply and demand based on your production logistics and leave yourself adequate time to meet those deadlines. Seems pretty straight forward for creating Mats, but that is just my opinion if I wanted to capitalize on something for a charity or business. Simple updates while customers are awaiting product fulfillment usually do the trick.

Taking pre sale for thousands of mats would be straight up dumb. Not to get into a pissing match with you but I'm in an industry where things are preordered constantly. Typically though, you can do quite a few things to work around long waits. One is warning people that there will be a lengthy delay and following up with emails every few weeks. The second is enabling a cancel feature.
IMHO it's foolish not to collect preorders if these are unlimited. It's better to capture the sale while interest is high rather than trying to recreate that excitement later on. Even if orders get cancelled later if the wait is too long.
The one caveat here is because it's Banksy, people will be annoying in bothering the charity. That can be lessened by either blog posts or email updates twice a month documenting progress of orders but that is manageable.
