Bbay, The approved used Banksy dealership, by Deleted on Oct 20, 2019 9:35:52 GMT 1, It really is nothing complicated. Banksy wants to take back a level of control (and significant slice) of his highly lucrative secondary market sales. Bbay should be the first stop for anyone looking to acquire secondary market works moving forward, over and above auction houses, dealers and secondary market galleries. If they sell below dealer/gallery prices to get parity when VAT is added on or move onto a margin share scheme like the secondary market galleries, they can potentially take a large slice away from the legitimate galleries and the unscrupulous dealers that operate in this space, particularly given they have access to the original buyers records. If Iโd spent the last ten years building a business largely funded off the back of secondary market Banksy sales I would be concerned (although at least if you sell a work via a dealer or gallery there is a level of anonymity you would get, unless the new owner registers the work with PC in their name) which you wouldnโt get by selling via Bbay. after the rise gallery in Croydon went under with people loosing money I'm sure people would rather choose bbay than anonymity. It would not be disclosed to anyone anyway.

Bbay, The approved used Banksy dealership, by dilu on Oct 20, 2019 9:38:25 GMT 1, Itโs quite interesting how we speculate on Banksys motive for bbay. Would you prefer to chance it on fleabay and ultimately end up with an expensive reproduction or ask the man himself to bring order to his work? Even if he were to make money from a seller, auction houses do they same. Equally, if Banksy was in it for the cash would he really still be selling prints at ยฃ500 which will go on to command ยฃ10000 plus in a year or two. If that was the cash why not sell at ยฃ1000 plus like most of his contemporaries now do (i.e PINs), without the flippability similarity.
Bottom line Banksy motive = honesty should not be questioned, and instead we should be well order will come to the Wild West.

My point around anonymity is that a lot of people who have bought work from source donโt want PC to know they have sold, for risk of being put on a blacklist and not being offered anything at primary again.
You make a good point about RISE gallery though - people need a trustworthy source they can buy from after that episode.

Bbay, The approved used Banksy dealership, by dilu on Oct 25, 2019 15:49:56 GMT 1, What if the purpose/role of bbay is to be the only way to buy and sell items sold at the GDP shop and all future items. Might Banksy set a ceiling on items being sold so flippers canโt flip?
If you opt out if this, youโd not be issued with. COA.
This might damage his secondary market but not his brand because it would subvert the art market and keep art in the hands of those guys who would buy his prints when the market was slow and miles away from the hypermarket.
Discuss.

Bbay, The approved used Banksy dealership, by moron on Oct 26, 2019 21:37:52 GMT 1, Great idea, will be interesting to see how the site develops and what impact it may have on the market. massive impact. If they say the buyer can only obtain a coa if it's sold through bbay then someone who has a tax return to pay selling a NOLA then will reduce price if there are two Nola's for sale then price will be impacted for seller. "If they say the buyer can only obtain a coa if it's sold through bbay" That would be construed as blackmail.
I am sure that Bbay will be 100% fair and correct in dealing with owners of Banksy items.

Bbay, The approved used Banksy dealership, by seamusdorey on Nov 7, 2019 14:12:40 GMT 1, 'The Artist's Resale Right (โARRโ) affords the creators of original works of art, which include graphic works, paintings, sculptures and collages, the right to a royalty when their work is resold through a qualifying intermediary, such as an auction house or art dealer.'
This hasn't been discussed yet. I wonder how this will impact on Banksy's ARR, when the qualifying intermediary is actually owned by the artist. I imagine it will make no difference and he will still receive the relevant ARR royalties? However, I suspect BBay will have a strong charity ethos with perhaps a percentage of commission going to various good causes?

Wonder if there are a group of people behind this BBay thing looking to buy up Banksy stuff cheap?

Bbay, The approved used Banksy dealership, by LJCal on Dec 14, 2019 2:27:00 GMT 1, My point around anonymity is that a lot of people who have bought work from source donโt want PC to know they have sold, for risk of being put on a blacklist and not being offered anything at primary again. You make a good point about RISE gallery though - people need a trustworthy source they can buy from after that episode. I won't be surprised if BBay and Pest control and POW do share private owners and potential buyers information with each other. beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/12281596/persons-with-significant-control BBAY ART LTD This is interesting. The directors and shareholders are the same as POW, interestingly a whole load of new directors have been appointed at POW. Looks like Bbay is part of the to be continued of POW. My view is that Bbay will have a profound impact on the market and add a much greater degree of transparency on pricing. I expect it will impact auction houses and dealers badly, not sure of the impact on value of the artwork. I guess a platform where buyers can purchase with confidence and transparently will be a good thing for values long term but will probably make it harder to flip going forward.

I do not think that whether a buyer or seller, re sold a Banksy artwork should have anything to do with information that is shared with Pest Control etc and should not be used against buyers or sellers in any way.
What someone does with a print etc after they have bought it is their business.

Bbay, The approved used Banksy dealership, by cest on Dec 17, 2019 17:34:49 GMT 1, Imo -Prices will have to go up. It will be one of the few artists who have a bullet proof coa... That means buyers nervous about fakes will go to the one place they can get it securely, and when bbay runs out of stock (creating more scarcity) the secondary will again flourish, but for more money.

Great point.

I doubt Bbay will run out of stock. There always seems to be people wanting to sell Banksy work, and there may be benefits to selling through them.

There is no way they can't run out of stock. Remember they've already done this. I was going to buy something from them last year but they had such Limited stock that I couldn't find the right piece.
Once they advertise that they are the central hub for all trades, they will get sold out of the more popular or sought-after pieces assuming their pricing is in line with demand. The only way they won't is it they price everything out of everyone's reach and a secondary Market is undercutting.

Imho you'll see individuals listing on there as well. Which will automatically create a situation where markets "inflate" to make up for fees etc.. it will become the place to buy his work.. Unless people want to take increased risk to buy off it..
Increased selling prices, possibly decreased seller take home...
Basically will be just an auction site but verified
