I view on my mobile and I don’t auto login to anything

Fair enough, just wanted to make it clear that no one has to login everytime they want to view the forum if they have autologin. Of course if you don't use that feature then yes you'll have to.

Not sure, might have been a nice idea for Silky to have had a poll or asked the members of the forum first. I dont mind either way, I think most forums do it this way so maybe hes just falling inline with the others.

Like all changes, initially be a pain for some but you'll get used to it and also if using auto login I guess it negates it anyhow.
Don't really use many forums but perhaps there has been an unwelcome amount of traffic on here as a result of GDP so hiding all detail behind a login will help
