Ah you are SO very dull.
What Banksy has done is so simple yet so brilliant. Most people, especially in large cities, when they pass someone sleeping on the street do everything they can not to think about it, not to acknowledge it, just to put it out of their minds. Some of the more selfish and heartless pass judgement and look down upon those less fortunate in the same situation.
This isn't engineered to simply call attention to the homeless but meant to elevate the way they are seen and not to reinforce negative biases. As the writer from the Guardian notes the work does not portray the homeless as a stereotype.
People tend to quietly embrace magical thinking, especially this time of year. What could be more magical than those that some perceive as being the least among us actually being the best among us hiding in plain sight? That's the point and you'd be hard pressed to argue that the concept of Santa wouldn't be one of the best among us if he were real.
The piece is meant to fully alter your perception of what you might otherwise see. And if you view Ryan in a different light than you might typically you might also be likely to treat him, and others like him, with the kindness they deserve. I think it's absolutely lovely.

You are the one making presumptions that he is an actor with absolutely no indication that he is other than your supicions. Do you think there are no homeless people named Ryan? How do you know he knows nothing about him? Just because he hasn't publicized how he ended up on the streets and his entire life's story how do you know he doesn't know? It's not his place to blast it out there to the world. Perception is just that, it often comes down to how someone's framed. In this case, Banksy has framed up Ryan in a way that might have folks who might not normally 'see' him do and may see him in a positive light, associated with a symbol of the best of the holiday season. You are a very sad person Rouen. Seems like you could use a little magic in your life as well. Open yourself to it and you might be pleasantly surprised.

The Evening Standard newspaper launched a two year campaign highlighting the plight of the homeless and also ran a big article about this BanXy mural. So there is a possibility that the two collaborated in order to raise awareness at Xmas. For the people who have not seen the yearly adverts by the Salvation Army which have been showing for decades on telly. Crisis at Christmas and other such reminders.
Ian Dale LBC radio presenter did a sleep out with others to raise awareness about homelessness and publicised it on LBC, then got attacked by lefties and wished he hadn't bothered.

Ryan the homeless guy as in the Banxy wallvertorial (like an advertorial, only it's when urban artists make a stencil highlighting an issue and promote themselves) Did not get a gofundme page set up in his name to help him. A quick easy to watch for people with short attention span viral video looking just like it was thought out by an advertising agency.

(which Banxy likes a lot, yes he does, he loves it)

Thanksy to Banksy, the local council decided to spend council tax payers money on expensive perspex, some burly council contractors or workers to attach the perspex to the wall. To transport some metal barriers to prevent people sitting on the bench and getting near this BanXy Xmas artwork, graffiti call it what you will.
So preventing the bench to be used by people who are tired and need a sit down or a homeless person to pose for an imaginary Lucien Freud on it. A bench paid for by hard working poor people.

I'm surprised though that the post is made by an "Instagram influencer" who says all the proceeds go to our 4 homeless charities, without bothering to name the 4 charities and promote them too.

He may be being a little tongue in cheek on the ‘influencer’ part, seems to be Geoff Barrows personal and public pages.

It would have been better that he did nothing at all. It makes me sad to be reminded of these people sleeping outside in the cold and rain. How dare he remind me of what's going on in our towns and cities.
Anyhow back to my nice cup of tea in my warm house
