Most Important Piece 2010-2019, by Bram on Dec 31, 2019 18:57:55 GMT 1, The last 10 years brought a number of issues wether it be our continued attack on our planet, the mass exodus of refugees, global political turmoil or the aftermath of the financial crisis.
Artists didn't shy away from these issues but does one piece stand out as being The iconic symbol of the decade like Shep’s ”Hope” did the decade before?

Most Important Piece 2010-2019, by nobokov on Dec 31, 2019 20:46:17 GMT 1,
Mark Bradford’s 150 Portrait Tone, a mural-size composition that contains elements of both abstraction and realism, is based on an idea for a work that the artist conceived after the fatal shooting of Philando Castile by a police officer in Saint Paul, Minnesota, in July 2016. Castile, a nutrition services supervisor at an elementary school, was shot after being pulled over in his car—an incident that was livestreamed on Facebook by Castile’s girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, who was sitting in the passenger seat next to him.
The painting features excerpts of Reynolds’s dialogue from the video. The title, 150 Portrait Tone, refers to the name and color code of the pink acrylic used throughout the painting. Like the now-obsolete “flesh” crayon in the Crayola 64 box (renamed “peach” in 1962), the color “portrait tone” carries inherent assumptions about who, exactly, is being depicted. In the context of Bradford’s painting, the title presents a sobering commentary on power and representation.

Most Important Piece 2010-2019, by stradled on Jan 1, 2020 10:00:12 GMT 1, I loved the initial placement of the Banksy 'I don't believe in Global Warming' especially the photo with the high water level. Similarly the one in Italy when the water level rised.

Most Important Piece 2010-2019, by smegma on Jan 1, 2020 23:53:36 GMT 1, a loaded question as subjective as art itself. which is great. i'm not going to answer with an iconic piece, as the op has suggested, but rather what piece has recently become the most important piece of the decade for me. something (for me) that has only happened in the last two months of the 2010s.
in this decade, i became a father. my son is half kenyan (his mom) and half american. we live in a very white area. his mom and i have since divorced. i dont know what it is like to be a brown boy in america, and his mother does not know what it is like growing up in america. my son is bombarded in media (cartoons, books, etc) with white characters, or white washed caricatures. recently he was looking at my instagram and became very interested in hebru brantley's fly boy works. as a six year old, he is drawn to the cartoonish aesthetic, but resonates with the pride in flyboy's skin color. that pride increased when i told him the tie in with and explained the tuskegee airmen. a film like spiderverse shows him a black boy can be spider-man, too. flyboy shows him that a brown boy can be his own hero. and now i need to buy one.
sorry as that is not really the spirit of the thread and a lot of oversharing perhaps.

as Iconic as it is Banksy walking the Haring dog the message and purpose of the print release used to help free pussy riot from detention was for me one of the most important pieces of the decade.

Most Important Piece 2010-2019, by dannubs on Jan 2, 2020 13:39:12 GMT 1, Banksy 'Love is in the Bin', Walker 'Fons Americanus' and KAWS 'Holiday: Hong Kong' are the ones that are standing out in my memory...not sure how I feel about them all being from the past two years.
Ai Weiwei 'Sunflower Seeds' is probably a big contender with its relevance to some of the political movements of the 2010's? Tough question.

Not sure if it was 'really' intended to shred completely, but I think it worked well half shredded and just hanging there in view.

Would love that as a print, although I do have it as a tiny doodle on an A4 piece of paper, framed up it looks amazing
