Visit TOKYO 🇯🇵 Japan Street Art, Galleries, Events, by artoys on Aug 8, 2023 19:53:15 GMT 1,
Night Out Gallery is happy to present to you a solo show of Takeshi Matsugami : ‘Screen’ The reception party will be on Friday the 18th of August from 6pm to 9pm. The exhibition will be from the 19th of August to the 3rd of September 2023.
FROM THE ARTIST: I have rarely had the opportunity to exhibit my work, so this is the first time I have painted such a large piece all together. Initially, I was going to paint in the setting of a composition with objects arranged on a table and viewed from above. In reality, however, I felt like I was arranging things on a computer. I would copy and paste, zoom in and out, rotate, and reflect while arranging the objects. I felt a little freer from the actual size of the objects and the gravity in the picture. What I found out after painting this time is that I seem to like kneading and applying paints on the screen rather than painting. Just as small children enjoy playing with clay and mixing paints together. I was not asked to paint by anyone, nor did I have any education in art, but now I understand one of the reasons why I have continued to paint, and I feel, "Ah, I can still paint." I felt that I could still paint, and I was honestly happy.
Takeshi Matsugami :
Takeshi Matsugami, born in Nagoya in 1980, graduated from the Nippon Designer Geijitsu Gakuin in 2002. His design training is reflected in his work, where a few precise strokes give rise to instantly recognizable everyday objects. In addition to these strokes that become contours, the artist uses bright colors to stage all those things that surround us: stacked cardboard boxes stamped with world-famous brands, clothes, office accessories, but also food, from a simple banana to a gyoza, a block of tofu or broccoli. The coarsely brushed paint provides a textured background for the "still life". The object thus presented imposes itself forcefully on the viewer's eye. It touches the viewer with its vivid color, its childlike simplicity and even the naivety of its representation. Childhood is more present in his latest creations, Puppet, puppets of Japanese kawaii characters (Hello Kitty, Little Twin Stars etc.) ... strung on hairy arms!) An artist who uses lines and colors to convey the touching simplicity of objects.

Visit TOKYO 🇯🇵 Japan Street Art, Galleries, Events, by artoys on Sept 2, 2023 7:27:51 GMT 1, For those in Tokyo next week, we will have an opening party on Friday the 8th !!!
Night Out Gallery is happy to present to you FUKI COMMITTEE second solo show : Re:Real The reception party will be on Friday the 8th of September from 6pm to 9pm. The exhibition will be from the 9th of September to the 24th of September 2023. The gallery is open on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (closed on Tuesday and Wednesday).
PRESENTATION:
FUKI COMMITTEE appeared a few years ago on the streets of Tokyo in the form of stickers (a frank, determined girl's gaze calling out to passers-by about crime, a girl in school uniform pointing at you with the caption ダメよ。ゼッタイ。- It's forbidden. Definitely).
FUKI COMMITTEE's artistic work is immediately recognizable: looks that grab you, plunging straight into yours, stubborn, far from the teasing or lustful looks that others paint on young girls' faces... The mouth doesn't smile, it's closed, the character is focused. And if it does part, it's to let a bit of tongue slip through, showing extreme concentration, or to let out a beckoning "Eh! Long hair in a ponytail with an elegant knot frames the face with its rebellious locks.
It's all there: a well-behaved uniform, a rebellious look. The character sticks stickers, not on smooth, impeccable walls, but on the wall with graffiti, in a city far from the clichés of ultra-cleanliness, a city with many faces, in perpetual evolution.
Beneath its cute exterior, the drawing raises questions about Japanese society, which is governed by a whole host of outdated, inappropriate formal guidelines that give everyone a false sense of morality and security.
The aim of this original committee is to question and shake up the formatted citizen in his daily routine.
Nightout Gallery is delighted to welcome FUKI COMMITTEE for the second time. After a first exhibition Activity Report in December 2022 ,which allowed the artists (including Uyu, charismatic member of the group) to express their talent on larger formats (paintings and panels), this reunion will allow visitors to follow the evolution of this stimulating committee!
Dates : 09/09 – 09/24 Thursday to Monday from 1pm to 7pm, Opening party : 09/08 from 6pm to 9pm, Closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Visit TOKYO 🇯🇵 Japan Street Art, Galleries, Events, by artoys on Oct 18, 2023 6:43:27 GMT 1, Hello the crew. If you are in Tokyo this Friday for the opening party !!!
Night Out Gallery is happy to present to you Mai Nagamoto’s new solo exhibition : “What words cannot convey” The reception party will be on Friday the 20th of October 2023 from 6pm to 9pm. The exhibition will be from Saturday the 21st of October 2023 to the 5th of November 2023.
Statement : “What words cannot convey” One of the reasons I paint is that it is easier for me to express my feelings than words. Painting allows me to face various things and move forward. In the process of painting, the painting asks me many questions, and the work is completed through many interactions with the painting. The formless things I have painted in the past and the monsters and monstrosities that I have created in my mind are all expressions of my own feelings and are like words to me. In the past, I was tired of words, I kept on painting, facing my anger and mental world, but My mind and body gradually broke down. However, Before Corona, I met stray cats in my neighborhood, and by touching and healing them, my life was changed in a very rich way, and I was freed from a great emotional trauma. Through the daily observation of these wordless creatures, I came to face myself anew, and my interest in living creatures and the healing that animals give me led me to a new desire and commitment to art, which I had once decided to end. This has led to a renewed desire to pursue my art, which I had once decided to quit.
Mai Nagamoto Born in Tokyo in 1984, Mai Nagamoto grew up in Kasukkabe in Saitama prefecture, where she began painting as a self-taught artist, happily dipping her fingers into the paint to make them dance across the canvas. This way of painting has remained ingrained in her, and it's impressive to see her painting live at performances in Japan (for example, in Tokyo in 2016) or elsewhere (in Thailand last April). Her fingers and hands are covered in a multitude of colors, undulating across the canvas to create colorful landscapes inhabited by gentle monsters. The brush is often used to add details, eyes and geometric patterns. It's a colorful fauna that comes to life in this universe that oscillates between childlike paradise (in which multicolored monsters walk with children, have houses or trees growing on their backs) and a darker world in which black seeks to invade the canvas, to eat away at the colors. Sometimes the characters are light, with watercolor-like paint, sometimes the darker side becomes heavy and pasty, with a thick texture that intrudes in gray-black gradations into the colorful characters. In recent years, cats seem to have taken up residence in the artist's paintings, with their heads full of expressions (mocking, superior, blasé, laughing, questioning), their colorful coats and hypnotic eyes... Sometimes they fly above colorful monsters, sometimes they share the canvas with their humans, sometimes they are in groups, other times they explore a variegated world on their own. The artist is also known for her vinyl creatures: Godzilla-like monsters, multicolored or transparent, with colored spikes on their backs, but also, here again, numerous cats. An artist with her head and hands in childhood and its joyful colors, who surrounds herself with funny monsters and mischievous cats.
Dates : 10/21 – 11/05 Thursday to Monday from 1pm to 7pm, Opening party : 10/20 from 6pm to 9pm, Closed on Tuesday, Wednesday.

Visit TOKYO 🇯🇵 Japan Street Art, Galleries, Events, by artoys on Nov 4, 2023 4:13:27 GMT 1, Hello the crew. If you are in Tokyo on Saturday 11th for the opening party of TYM344 !!! at Night Out Gallery in Tokyo, Harajuku.
Night Out Gallery is pleased to present “Stop and Go,” a solo exhibition by TYM 344, on view from Saturday, November 11 through Sunday, December 3, 2023. The opening party will be held on Saturday, November 11, from 6 to 9 pm.
Welcome. Thank you. Straight ahead. No return. You Can’t Go Back. (In 2022, I began work on the “On/Off” series, a remixed version of “Welcome. Thank You. Straight. Don’t Go Back. The “On/Off” series is a series of paintings on wheels to prove my assumption that the essence of painting is “immobility,” and the subjects of the paintings are mainly signs and billboards that “Binarized Painting” takes as its model. The name of the series literally represents the basic principle of my paintings, binary (on/off), as well as the fact that the wheels are originally attached to the ground (on) to generate movement, but when hung on the wall as paintings, the wheels are off the ground (off). Here, there is an antagonistic relationship between “movement” and “immobility. By extending this relationship to the entire exhibition space, the artist creates time to consider the substance of the painting from multiple perspectives. This exhibition is such an attempt. Biography :
TYM344 is an artist who creates various painting screens by combining elements of quotations from past images from art history and film history, characters from his own four-frame comic books, and designs of road signs and billboards that he photographs on the street every day. All of his works are thoroughly monochromatic in order to strengthen the “motionlessness,” which he considers to be the essence of painting, and to minimize the information lost when the images are converted to other media such as photographs and printed matter (he himself calls this form “binarized paintings”). ) By reexamining the issues of the nature of painting, which have been largely neglected in the present age, and by weaving in the environment in which images are received in the present age, the artist continues to produce images of high intensity as a result.
The theme of this solo exhibition is to consider “immobility,” which the artist considers to be the essence of painting, from the perspective of its contrast and difference from “movement,” and will be centered on a series of paintings with wheels that are never used (“On/Off” series).
We hope you will take this opportunity to view the exhibition.

If you are in Tokyo on the 9th of December for the first STICKERS exhibition in Japan !
STICKERS: a unique exhibition in Tokyo
Like any leading capital of the world, Tokyo is the host of a dynamic vivid street scene. For several decades, artists from different generations and horizons express their identities by marking public spaces. This creative movement regularly conflicts with local authorities seeking order and uniformity, and with a traditional Japanese approach to the Arts and manner of expression.
In December 2023, Night Out Gallery will host a unique and first-of-its-kind exhibition about the Stickers subculture, gathering artists from Japan and abroad. Not looking to be the solution to a difficult equation, we believe that this exhibition will educate visitors about the intentions of sticker artists, enlighten amateurs about the values of this community, and initiate civilised discussions about the directions this movement should take. OPEN CALL FOR STICKER ARTISTS Artists from Japan and abroad are welcome to participate in the exhibition, agreeing with the following terms: – The artist must send 10+ stickers of various designs (avoiding large sizes) by postal directly to Night Out Gallery. The organisers reserve the right to discard designs that are deemed offensive to the public. – The stickers provided are considered donations and cannot be recovered. While part of the exhibition will be sold to support the exhibition costs, no financial royalties will be provided to participants. Note: stickers will never be sold individually. – The artists consent for the organisers to use the stickers designs for the purpose of advertising the exhibition and for publishing a book about the event.
DEADLINE: The stickers must be received by 01-DEC-2023 to be included in the exhibition.
We do our best to keep every participants updated with the good reception of their stickers. If you have not received a confirmation, please contact us. For any questions or remarks, please contact us by email or by direct message via the Instagram account @tokyowalls @ Night Out Gallery Aoyama Taiyo Building #301, 3-42-7 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo Sat. 09-DEC-2023 through Sat. 23-DEC-2023 Opening reception : Sat. 09 December from 6pm to 9pm Exhibition updates: please follow the Instagram accounts @tokyowalls and stickers _go_around_the_world

Night Out Gallery is happy to present to you MAW’s first solo show of 2024 : ‘LOOKS’. The exhibition will start on Saturday the 6th of January at 1pm. The opening party will be from 6pm to 9pm the same day. The show will end on Sunday 21st of January.
BIOGRAPHY A Tokyo-based artist whose roots are in graffiti. He has been creating iconic smiley face characters called "MikeL" (Michael) on the streets. In recent years, he has been actively collaborating with brands and exhibiting his work in galleries outside of Tokyo.
MAW has maintained his own style for more than 16 years, and his method of telling everything with MikeL's expressions and traces is truly simple and even graceful. Sometimes they seem to ridicule the world, sometimes they are smiling symbols, and sometimes they are unique in that they evoke a variety of emotions in the viewer. Always looking at us with the same iconic expression, MikeL is a happy expression that attracts people with such a mysterious charm and leads viewers to smile.

Night Out Gallery is happy to present HINAKO SUDA’s solo show : ‘Floating Body’. The exhibition will start on Saturday the 27th of January at 1pm. The opening party will be from 6pm to 9pm the same day. The show will end on Sunday 11th of February.
PRESENTATION : Hinako Suda creates works based on the concept of "the gap between the body and the spirit," in which she uses the body to dissipate the growing frustration from the outside.
Suda's works are somehow comical, sexy, and deeply spiritual, with a definite sense of flesh. Her rhythmic, powerful, and tranquil lines are so expressive that words are no longer necessary.
Some people see in her works a deep prayer, similar to that of Matisse in his later years, while others see an ethereal beauty in the margins of her works. Her work, like a young tree deeply rooted in the history of art, contains the potential of art.

Night Out Gallery is happy to present to you its first group show of the year “HAPPY PEOPLE”. It will feature the talented artists : Cédric Pierre-Bez, EMU, Fragile, Keiko Aikawa, KAI, Lotta, Mai Nagamoto and Motas.
The exhibition will be from the 23rd of March to the 14th of April 2024. The reception party will be on the 23rd from 6pm to 9pm.Happy People is the new group show that bundles personified art through original characters that are branding each artist individually. This exhibition is inspired by Japanese manga and foreign vintage comics. It broadcasts a wide variety of Post-Pop art in the heart of Tokyo, at Night Out Gallery, from the 23rd of March 2024.
ABOUT :
Cédric Pierre-Bez : He’s a French illustrator and painter born in 1984 in Marseille. After he graduated as a graphic designer, he decided to devote himself to illustration under the name CÉPÉ. He transcribes in his work the light and colors of the south of France which is his main source of inspiration. His creations are nourished by the graphic influences of the 20th century artists, like cubists and expressionists. In his compositions, he disassembles space, bodies, and faces to create a distorted and naive world.EMU : After working as a graphic designer, he started working as an artist in 2016. By upcycling wood scraps from shipyards that would otherwise be thrown away, he creates sculptures and paintings with particular attention to form.
Fragile : The subjects in Fragile’s paintings have balloon bodies and, as the name implies, are depicted as very fragile. They are living in a very precarious balance, between life and death, even though the round shape of the balloons makes them just look cute at first glance. Her paintings are influenced by the Pop Art Postmodernism of the 80s, especially by Jeff Koons. Through the production process, the artist discusses the repetitive consumption of life by humans nowadays.
Keiko Aikawa :
She was born in Niigata Prefecture in 1989, she graduated from Nagaoka Zokei University in the Department of Visual Design. She draws what she feels every day in her sketchbook through collage and oil painting.
KAI : Kai’s paintings take you on a surreal journey through a realm of black and white. His signature monsters evolve into shadowy guides, leading you through a series of interconnected universes. The boundaries between reality and the unknown blur, inviting you to craft your unique narrative and interpret the fluid, inky silhouettes that define Kai’s universe.
Lotta : She is a self-taught painter born in 1993 and based in Tokyo. In 2020, Lotta created her original character, Socks, a ghost cat. Socks has now become a significant figure within her works, embodying the stories living in Lotta’s head and sometimes becoming a self-portrait projecting Lotta herself. Lotta has been strongly influenced by Western cartoons and Japanese animation she watched in her childhood which leads to her current style of drawing and painting that creates the impression of nostalgia that many people can empathize with.
Mai Nagamoto : She is a self-taught artist, she has been painting ever since she was a child. Her works express the innocence that we all had as children, and the gloom that appears in the corners of our minds as we grow older, using pop colors and contrasting deep, dark colors and shapes.
Motas : MOTAS is a Japanese duo born in 2012. Its two members, BOYA and TOMO, reside and work in Japan. Captured in various scenarios, BLEYE, their omnipresent character, takes the form of both a person and a hand, navigating a bustling everyday family life infused with elements of dreams and melancholy. Despite this, the character constantly faces the presence of a perpetually raised middle finger, symbolizing the burdens we all carry.
Dates : 03/23 – 04/14 Monday to Sunday from 1pm to 7pm Opening party : 03/23 from 6pm to 9pm Closed on Tuesday and Wednesday
