Visit TOKYO ๐ฏ๐ต Japan Street Art, Galleries, Events, by richskara on Jun 4, 2014 15:24:49 GMT 1, Hi all
Apologies if in wrong forum but I'm off to the above mentioned places in July and would love some gallery recommendations for while I'm over there.
Alternatively any other recommendations, been to Tokyo before but was 5/6 years ago and got the worst memory known to man.
Cheers

Visit TOKYO ๐ฏ๐ต Japan Street Art, Galleries, Events, by johnnyh on Jun 4, 2014 19:05:13 GMT 1, If you want to see some street art in Tokyo go to Harajuku.
The galleries in general are tiny but there is some DFace in Harajuku plus local Graff writing all over the place. If you profile me look on recent threads you will see some pics I took of the work mainly in Harajuku
for street art there is a small gallery called the Kasuma Gallery but it is tiny lovely people. Have some nice works on the out side see pics in thread. nothing streetwise in bangkok but you can find Thai galleries. Phuket no galleries other than copy canvases.

Visit TOKYO ๐ฏ๐ต Japan Street Art, Galleries, Events, by misterx on Jun 27, 2014 7:55:05 GMT 1, I was in Phuket in January. The only galleries I saw were the "copy" types.
Great island though.Make sure to take a day trip on a speedboat.
We went with this company and quite frankly it was the best day of the trip.Highly recommended.VERY safety conscious. Lots of complaints on Tripadvisor from dumb tourists complaining their day trip was cancelled due to bad weather...!!

Visit TOKYO ๐ฏ๐ต Japan Street Art, Galleries, Events, by madbaki on May 5, 2015 5:37:39 GMT 1, I saw the thread for galleries in LA, so I thought i'd see if you guys know of any galleries in Japan. I'm aware of HHH Gallery in Tokyo, and i'd like to see if there were more (which i'm sure there are). However, I'm mainly interested in galleries in the South of Japan (the biggest city near me is Fukuoka). Know of any?

I need your help, I am going in two weeks to Tokyo for business purposes. I would like to leverage this trip to discover the street art scene of Tokyo and Japan in general (I ll take one week of holiday to travel).
Do you have any tips about the best neighborhoods to discover street art in Tokyo / other cities in Japan? Do you know some blogs, Facebook page or Instagram page that I should follow? Anyone here leaving there?
Thank you in advance for your support.

Visit TOKYO ๐ฏ๐ต Japan Street Art, Galleries, Events, by Feral Things on Oct 23, 2016 17:15:06 GMT 1, I was lucky enough to be in Japan this time last year and the food, people, gardens and sumo were just incredible. You're in for a treat!
Josรฉ Parlรก has a show on at Yuka Tsuruno called 'Small Golden Suns'. I got the book that accompanies the show a couple of weeks ago and the work is as beautiful as you'd expect from Parlรก but there's no substitute for seeing his work in the flesh. There is only a relatively limited graffiti/street art scene in Japan but the best neighbourhoods to head to are Harajuku (where the London Police lad below is) and Shibuya (where the Invader is located).

Visit TOKYO ๐ฏ๐ต Japan Street Art, Galleries, Events, by natstan on Nov 16, 2016 10:14:31 GMT 1, If you are into toys, mandarake and nakano broadway are not to be missed. There's a murakami cafe at or near the latter though I didn't visit the last time I was there. If you walk around the harjuku area, which is a hip shopping neighbourhood, there is also plenty of street art to see.
For food, there are plenty of ramen places around and you will be able to find some good ones by googling, but expect long queues for popular joints. Of all the museums, I found the tokyo edo museum the most interesting for its depiction on tokyo's history.

Visit TOKYO ๐ฏ๐ต Japan Street Art, Galleries, Events, by nobokov on Nov 17, 2016 6:34:52 GMT 1, Very lucky! Wish I could visit again soon. Japan-guide is a very useful resource for descriptions of the attractions and how to get to them.
www.japan-guide.com/
Cuisine-wise, there are so many Michelin-starred restaurants in both cities. I'd highly recommend visiting a Kaiseki restaurant in Kyoto. Reservation
Here's a link for Ramen restaurants in Tokyo. I'd recommend Kikanbo. luckypeach.com/guides/the-five-ramen-shops-you-can-and-should-visit-in-tokyo/
If you're obsessed about Ramen like I am, the Ramen Museum in Yokohama is a great place to go. There are many ramen restaurants with different styles, housed in this museum. It's a short train ride south from Tokyo.
Sushi Dai at Tsukiji Market is a great place, but the line is damn excruciating....
If you're going before the 27th, there's a Grand Sumo tournament going on in Tokyo.
In Kyoto, I'd recommend hanging out around Gion near sunset. You'll be able to see many Geishas walking about around then. Also, I highly recommend visiting Nara, which is a short train ride south from Kyoto. And the Fushimi Inari Shrine is not to missed - rows and rows of toriis, which you've probably seen in photos and films.
Hope that helps and you have a great time.
