Actually - do it - you only live once !!

Visit TOKYO ๐ฏ๐ต Japan Street Art, Galleries, Events, by bigv on Nov 18, 2016 16:59:03 GMT 1, Just spent 2 weeks in Japan with about 10 days between Tokyo and Kyoto; you're going to have a blast.
To everyone that said ramen restaurants definitely check out Gogyo in Kyoto, it was highly regarded by the locals when I was there and the burnt soy ramen was spectacular. Also, if you can find it okonomiyaki which is more of a regional ramen from near Osaka is amazing.
On sushi, I had it in a few places and by far the best I had was in Zama (about 45 minutes outside of Tokyo) at Shin's Sushi Bar. My sisters husband is a naval pilot based in Atsugi but lives in Zama and Shins is unbelievable, spectacular, and every other superlative you can think of. It's small and only seats about 15 semi-comfortably, but Shin-san makes everything in front of you. Plus he has ยกWHALE! which is so good raw as sushi or deep fried (completely different flavors). He uses real wasabi which is hotter than the fake stuff we get in the states but doesn't linger.
If you're up to it, you can ride go karts around tokyo dressed as Mario characters and see all the major sights. You hit up to 50mph in street legal go karts. (Maricar.com)
Lastly, while you're in Kyoto, you must check out Shigeharu. He's the oldest knife maker in the city and the shop has been in continuous operation (though not necessarily in the same location) since the 1350s. He makes all of the blades with his name on them himself. I picked up a gyoto (Japanese chefs knife) that is not only beautiful, but unbelievably sharp. I haven't used it very much since I don't trust my roommates to treat it properly, but it'll be a staple in my future kitchen.
Any other questions pm me, I've got a bunch of other thins that were awesome depending on where you're at.

Visit TOKYO ๐ฏ๐ต Japan Street Art, Galleries, Events, by cmc on Apr 24, 2017 4:09:02 GMT 1, Hello everyone, I will be in Tokyo in a few weeks and was hoping some of you good people might have some recommendations of where to go. Galleries/shops selling the usual suspects. Murakami at kai kai kiki? never figured out where to buy his works.

Visit TOKYO ๐ฏ๐ต Japan Street Art, Galleries, Events, by cmc on Apr 24, 2017 7:22:34 GMT 1, Thanks b1470 so thats the Mori Art Museum, does that have some Murakami prints for sale in the museum shop?
I know on the 3rd floor of that same building is Roppongi hills art and design store which looks to have something.
The actual Kai Kai KIKi gallery from what I have seen is not in Roppongi but Minato (Japan, ใ106-0046 Tokyo, ๆธฏๅบMotoazabu, 2โ3โ30)
But it looks to be the place they have originals not sure if there are editions available.
If anyone has more information please let me know.
Anyone know galleries selling western editions?

Visit TOKYO ๐ฏ๐ต Japan Street Art, Galleries, Events, by followyoursole on May 24, 2017 23:18:58 GMT 1, I'm heading out to Tokyo this week. Just wondering if anyone knows any galleries I should check out while I'm out there. Wouldn't mind picking up some art while out there. A murakami sounds nice.
Any tips would be appreciated. My first time out in Japan.

Visit TOKYO ๐ฏ๐ต Japan Street Art, Galleries, Events, by Jonny Wednesday on Oct 23, 2017 12:21:54 GMT 1, All,
I've got a weeks worth of work coming up shortly in Tokyo and Kyoto. I've never been before. Has anyone been and can recommend any galleries to visit. I'd like to buy something unique to Japan, so any recommendations greatly received....plus any other POI's and restaurants worth visiting? I've got 2 weekends to fill.
thanks in advance
