Gallery wall style hanging, by Rouen Cathedral on Feb 9, 2020 23:47:44 GMT 1, I’ve got a wall I’m going to start hanging on. I’ve always loved the look of those galleries/museums where there are a lot of paintings/prints all close together with no real module and tights spacing. Anyone got a photo of one in their house they’d love to share?

Gallery wall style hanging, by Pavoni on Feb 10, 2020 1:28:24 GMT 1, It's called "Salon-style" hanging.
Google has many good images.
Love the style myself as well. Think KAWS has a studio wall or two hung that way with his collection. Seen on his IG.

Gallery wall style hanging, by GMA on Feb 10, 2020 12:14:34 GMT 1, I love the style, we have to buy more smaller pieces to make it work, yesterday we spent 2 hours rearranging and hanging 3 new pieces up. It meant two pieces had to go above eachother, fairly tight too. If you're any good at photoshop I would take a photo of the wall and each piece you would like to hang, and rearrange it all on photoshop first, itll save you a lot of time and its easier reshuffling on photoshop to get it right.

Gallery wall style hanging, by iamzero on Feb 10, 2020 15:14:35 GMT 1, When you have all your frames together, use a roll of brown paper to make templates of each frame and masking tape those to the wall and arrange them how you would like them to be. This way you can shuffle things around to maximise the space before you commit to drilling anything.

Gallery wall style hanging, by iamzero on Feb 10, 2020 17:54:53 GMT 1, You can even work out where your drill holes need to be on the template paper. A really simple idea that is in afoot this type of hanging. Paul Smith store always used to have great salon displays of art up on the side of their stair walls.

Bit of a disaster for me the drill hole bit
There doesn't seem to be a standard distance from the top of the frame to the string or wire, and there doesn't seem to be a standard on wire or string, some stuff stretches dependant on weight of frame and others don't
So to work it out so paintings are hung at the same level I hang the string or wire off the end of a measuring tape and take note of the distance to top of frame
The reason i mention it is I am one of these people that if possible match the top of the picture frame to the top of door architrave an work around the room like that and sulks a bit when i drill 20 holes for one pic
The other bad point of no standard on framing is it's a bit of a b**chif you want to rehang in different areas

I've been tempted with one of these, however I don't know if I would trust it with heavy frames, without someone stood ready to catch it. www.amazon.co.uk/YouMiYa-Suspension-Horizontal-Roof%EF%BC%8CPerfect-Clocks%EF%BC%88Green/dp/B079L5S89S

I put bigger stuff on two screw spaced about 6 to 7 inches apart... it makes the easier to get level. The cord rings on each frame are usually Fixed about a third of the way down the frame from the top but to then get the cord/ wire at the same tension on every frame is difficult. I hang most pictures with the centre of the frame at about 158cm from the floor.

Gallery wall style hanging, by touchdowntodd on Feb 10, 2020 18:58:36 GMT 1, Why not buy something like the hanging systems that are infinitely adjustable up down side to side etc? I've had em before, works great and 0 holes

Yeah, bought one of those, tried it, and binned it, tape measure was easier (for me) and more accurate

Does work well, it means you can always change your mind and have a shuffle round. Does work better with heavier frames as small ones seem to lean one side of the string. Still good

Cheers for the link, I did use them a few years back in my last house. The ceilings were a little higher so hid the wires quite well, but you can still see them
