Smudged signature, by Terry Fuckwitt on Feb 13, 2020 12:17:43 GMT 1, Hi, I have a print with a slightly smudged signature. I think it's likely to affect the value, so I was wondering if it is possible to fix? I intend on selling the print at some point, so would it be worth fixing prior to selling? Might it damage the print?ย I will probably sell the print through someone like Sotheby's, so would they be able to restore it? Thanks for any advice! Best, Rob
It's a signature, don't touch it! Only way, is if the artist themselves could rub it out and sign it again.

Smudged signature, by Deleted on Feb 13, 2020 12:24:32 GMT 1, Agreed. Definitely don't touch it. The only thing you'd do is make it worse. Best bet might be to speak to an auction house about the effect it might have on price and ask what they'd recommend. If it was smudged on signing, rather than after, it might not matter much.
Most likely is you'll just have to accept your print isn't pristine.

Smudged signature, by moron on Feb 17, 2020 13:42:46 GMT 1, I recall an incident regarding an auction house. Christies I think it was that sold an old master painting for big bucks, that the buyer demanded a refund when they found out that the majority of the painting had been restored or repainted; I think they lost their case because it was pointed out that the signature was authentic.

When they say they tried to avoid waste they really meant it. Where do you think the term of โhand finishedโ came from๐ค
