there must be a better way surely, by slinkink on Mar 29, 2007 22:47:06 GMT 1, since today is pretty much regarded as a continuation of the la print release shambles and most of us on here would surely agree that baggers are a huge part of the problem, do you think that limiting orders to one per household is a good way of dealing with people just wanting to whack em on ebay even before the print arrives?
if so how about they sort out their website better (so it doesn't melt) put all the images up online with prices and choose a day next week, month whatever and release every last one of the la prints including any new colourways etc over a 12 or 24 hour period. every 2 hours a new print goes online and over the entire day you can only order one per ip address/physical address/credit card number whatever. of course baggers have more than one credit card and they have mates but hey don't we?? the way it is at the moment a team of three or so baggers could get one of each of the prints.
might also be a little bit fairer to those who dont live and/or work on uk time!...
or who are on planes when they email is sent out and the prints released at a different time anyway...
people who failed to get the print they wanted would get another chance at another print if they wanted to.
it would still be a lottery but i can't see how that can be avoided. perhaps it might be a way of people having a SLIGHTLY better chance of getting a print they want. at the moment i am sure there are some in addition to the baggers who are trying to get this print not to put it on ebay but because then they can possibly do a deal with it for 'trollies in aqua' or whatever, which is what they really want...
just a thought...
ps if this is an old idea apologies for not doing enough research....

there must be a better way surely, by Strange Al on Mar 29, 2007 22:56:33 GMT 1, slinkink - this type of plan has been suggested previously and is a pretty good idea.
What's also been suggested before and is I think the only way of dealing with the baggers is unlimited runs of all Banksy screenprints. Effectively print to order.
Though while we may hate to admit it, I think people like the fact there is a certain degree of exclusivity.

of course there are ways thomas, nothing is perfect. most people have multiple credit cards, some have multiple/dynamic ip addresses, some people have multiple addresses.
but just because something isn't perfect doesn't mean it can't be an improvement

i don't think there is any reason to be shy of admitting we want limited print runs. we would probably all prefer originals, failing that signed copies, failing that really beautifully made unsigned copies.... having a signature means a direct connection to the artist and if you are in love with the work surely knowing that it has been made slightly unique by virtue of the artists signature (each signature being an original) or at least knowing that the artist may have hopefully had some involvement with the creation of the unsigned work makes it a bit special.
however i would have no problem with unsigned unnumbered runs of some of the prints at a really cheap price. although i guess forged signature copies would be all over ebay.
while there is a demand there will always be people out to profit from it. just wish it was a little fairer that's all.... (and before i get everyone telling me life isn't fair i am very very aware of that)...
