Madrid/Barcelona, by Smokeidaeye on Feb 16, 2020 22:01:03 GMT 1, My family and I are traveling to Madrid and Barcelona for the first time in a few weeks and would love some ideas for things to do and see, beyond the usually tourist destinations covered in every travel guide.
Art-wise the only thing I know we'll be doing is tracking down Invader pieces in Barcelona as this is one of our 12-year-old's favorite things to do when we travel! Our daughter is also a big fan of Ricardo Cavolo but it doesn't look like he has a gallery in Barcelona.
Thanks for any suggestions!

For Barcelona, i would recommend a paid graffiti bike tour - I used Barcelona Street Style Tour (barcelonastreetstyletour.com) and took around 3 hours and was around 20 Euros pp. Also get up early (08:30) before the shops open and walk around the streets just off the main shopping streets - you will see loads of local graffiti on the security shutters/doors Base Elements Gallery is good for local known artists and they offer workshops for the family. Also Montana shop worth a look

Madrid/Barcelona, by fuqueuing on Feb 16, 2020 23:14:45 GMT 1, In Barcelona be sure to stop in at Base Elements gallery, the owner is a gem and there are always plenty of interesting pieces on view. In Madrid the Malasana neighborhood is filled with great Street Art. My favorites are E1000 who paints on the iron window coverings. Also "Sports Illustrated" or 'Nean' is an artist working in tiles similar to Invader with a basketball theme.

Madrid/Barcelona, by mojo on Feb 17, 2020 0:47:29 GMT 1, MADRID LAVAPIES is full of great tapas bars and street art. Don't miss Picasso's Guernica at the Reina Sofia, near Atocha Station. If you are facing the entrance to Reina Sofia walk towards your right and then do a left onto Calle Zurita and that will take you to Lavapies (20ish minute walk).
link
Have a great trip and remember most Spanish folk love a siesta and don't go out of an evening till about 10ish and stay out late and very little happens before 11am.

Madrid/Barcelona, by Riotcops on Feb 17, 2020 5:13:26 GMT 1, In addition in BCN.. Picasso Museum (Gothic Quarter) Alzueta Gallery
Non art... Hotel Brummell (cool local feel) Casa Batlo (my personal favourite Gaudi building) Old Fashioned (cocktails) Nightcap (cocktails)
If you're into skateboarding hit up Macba, diagonal or Universitad to see some of the world's most famous spots (and most likely some skaters in action)
Day trip to Casa Brava or the amusement park up the hill might be fun with the lil one.
Eat Tapas, drink Estrella and enjoy!

Madrid/Barcelona, by denada on Feb 17, 2020 9:30:45 GMT 1, Madrid:
For street art / urban art galleries;
Best areas to walk around for street art are Malasana and Lavapies.
Coleccion Solo – an immense and varied private collection of art. A lot of focus on street / urban art. This is hands down the number one thing I would recommend to anyone that is interested in this genre of art. You have to book a tour in advance, and with the added bonus of it being completely free.
coleccionsolo.com/
Delimbo Gallery – another gallery with a focus on street / urban art. It is actually based on ‘Calle del Doctor Fourquet’ which is well known for its high concentration of galleries, and it’s only around the corner from the Reina Sofia museum. You could spend a couple of hours on this street alone, visiting all the numerous galleries. There is also a lovely coffee shop here called ‘Hola Coffee’. Also there is a community garden on this street with Blu and Roa, as well as other artists.
www.delimbo.com/
Not to far from Delimbo is another gallery / bookshop with a urban art focus called ‘Swinton & Grant’.
swintongallery.com/
Opposite Swinton & Grant is the old tobacco factory which is covered in murals by street artists. They also hold interesting art exhibitions.
latabacalera.net/
Other places worth checking out for interesting exhibitions;
caixaforum.es/es/madrid/home
It’s worth checking out the old slaughterhouse ‘Matadero’ which holds exhibitions. You can also combine this with a relaxing walk along the Madrid Rio where you will come across some large Blu and Sam 3 murals.
www.mataderomadrid.org/
If you’re in the Retiro park, make sure you check out the crystal palace and ‘Palacio de Velazquez’ which often house exhibitions in collaboration with the major museums of Madrid.
Random recommendations;
Madrid's 'golden triangle of art' is a must. You can save some money by visiting the museums at certain times which are free (check the websites).
Check out the view from the Debod temple at sunset.
You get a really good view of Gran Via (the main street in Madrid) from the cafe at the El Cortes Ingles at Plaza del Callao.
Also check out the rooftop bar @ the Círculo de Bellas Artes (Calle de Alcalá, 42 -7th Floor). A really nice view.
Eat churros at San gines. Great cocktails at Salmon Guru. Great coffee at Hanso café and Toma café. Eat as much as possible at the food markets. ‘Bar La Campana’ does the best calamari sandwich in Madrid.
Enjoy!
