I use Yahoo! Auction here in Japan (eBay not very popular). I like their system--though it makes for some late nights: if there is a bid placed in the last 5 minutes of an auction, 10 more minutes get added on to the end time. This continues until no more last-minute bids are entered.

Had no idea it's essentially C2C like eBay, etsy, this Forum, etc.
I see there is a link for condition report. Will try that on a random item just to see what I get.

NY warehouse for me as it is the closest, but they do have other warehouses around the world. |

Christies and Phillips charge 25%, Artnet charges 20% and paddle8 15%....
Paddle8 is at the unfortunate disadvantage of being very young, unlike the others which have been in business for over 20 years and have hard drives full of collectors tastes and habits to email when they are selling work. On the other hand, their site is sexy as hell!
Anyways, just my view on this whole scene but feel free to tell me to shove it!

You raise some good points but again 3,800 is the starting i assume your reserve was 5K otherwise they would have lowered the estimate. So assuming 5K plus their 15% commission 5,750 as the first number it will sell at. An auction is meant to start lower and then end up their, but i guess thats fair as they do have much less exposure than christies digard or artnet. Its the same reason they only charge 15%, it kind of goes by how good you are. Christies and Phillips charge 25%, Artnet charges 20% and paddle8 15%.... As they get less exposure I think their game plan of setting the reserve at 80% of their low estimate (and I think their $5-$6k estimate is fair) is a good way for them to conduct business.
I have never heard of Yahoo Japan auctions adding time onto the auction if bids are placed at the end, that's an interesting idea I would like ebay to implement- it makes it more of a true auction setting "going once, going twice, new bidder at the back of the room".

I never go to auctions or watch live auctions, I don't have the restraint and get carried away, I usually place a bid I'm happy to pay and forget about it, if I get it great, if not I have a look at the not solds, sometimes you can negotiate great aftersales prices...depending on the auction and the seller |
