Paddle8 Auctions ๐บ๐ฒ BANKRUPT , by mandelbrot on Jan 15, 2017 21:59:56 GMT 1, The Winkelvoss twins and Damien Hirst amongst others were mentioned when the were setting up. I don't know this for a fact. Hopefully all will be good.
Oh jeez! The Winklevoss twins! Not much better than Jedward!

Paddle8 Auctions ๐บ๐ฒ BANKRUPT , by daniel3886 on Jan 15, 2017 22:21:48 GMT 1, They have been professional with me also. I'm just concerned for buyers who've paid for work receiving it and vice versa in the event that the worst happens. Knowing who some of the backers are you'd like to think this won't happen but what protection do buyers and sellers really have? Pay with Amex. Those guys don't mess about when it comes to customer service..
Sound advice for buyers. Do they take it do you know?

Pretty sure they do. I half heartedly went through the motions of registering and I recall it popped up as an option. I always have Amex connected to PayPal either way, if PayPal don't sort out a mess them Amex will.

Paddle8 Auctions ๐บ๐ฒ BANKRUPT , by Poster Bob on Jan 16, 2017 10:25:47 GMT 1, I think that even though they are under the same roof they're treated as separate entities. I did sign a contract last week to sell two items through Paddle 8 and have sold through them previously and everything went smoothly. I think I've always been paid two weeks after shipping, but I'm not sure.

Paddle8 Auctions ๐บ๐ฒ BANKRUPT , by Matt on Jan 16, 2017 11:09:39 GMT 1, I have no first hand experience of selling / buying on P8, but i do spend quite a bit of time looking at their acuctions...and I am still extremely puzzled by the odd (to say the least) results they achieve.
Some rare and hard to find pieces available there go unsold (like most of their lots), yet other much more common pieces fetch prices quite above what you would easily find on the bay, or here, or even with online galleries
I understand that bidders at prestigious and well established auction houses are not poring over eBay and UAA etc...so they will pay higher prices (sometimes fluke prices like that Invader kit or Emin poster)
But I assume that the public of an online platform like P8 is at least somewhat aware of these other online options.
So who is bidding 500+fees for a plush toy available around 300 net without much looking around ? 2.5K for an orange Invader ?
A business repeatedly acheiving "irrational" results always seems strange to me...

Paddle8 Auctions ๐บ๐ฒ BANKRUPT , by yobaby on Jan 16, 2017 12:38:25 GMT 1, Does anyone know whether Paddle 8 take responsibility as to verifying the Authenticity of what they're selling?
"provenance" Acquired from above by present owner
This seems to be the standard stance with all their pieces which is fair enough to a point but there are loads of knockoff KAWS for example.

How do you feel about the value of this book cover by Faile? Not really expert of his price, but as I own a huge og on paper or "Brave and Strong" this will make the perfect combo!
Thanks

Paddle8 Auctions ๐บ๐ฒ BANKRUPT , by daveart on Jan 16, 2017 16:05:13 GMT 1, Regarding the Authenticity. My experience with Paddle 8 and Artnet both as a buyer and seller on these platforms is that no representative of the auction actually touches or handles the piece. The seller ships directly to the buyer and the pieces are never actually at the auction house. I realize this may not be true for all of their sales - but in my experience that is how it worked. As a seller through Artnet - they did do a decent amount of emailing for information, photos, etc. but nothing that would have rigorously indicated they could spot a fake better than anyone else selling items online. my 2cents. maybe someone selling Kaws fakes or something would stick to Ebay ..but my experience wouldnt lead me to believe you should feel all the safer on paddle8 or artnet. curious what others have to say on that.

Paddle8 Auctions ๐บ๐ฒ BANKRUPT , by Poster Bob on Jan 16, 2017 17:39:00 GMT 1, I think Paddle8 is safer as a buyer because you pay, you receive it, and then they pay the seller. If at any point along the way something goes awry, you can get your cash back from Paddle8. Artnet on the other hand has the buyer pay the seller directly and then organizes shipping.

Paddle8 Auctions ๐บ๐ฒ BANKRUPT , by toshspice on Jan 16, 2017 18:09:47 GMT 1, The problem with Paddle 8 is there's no results database. Why hide the very thing that drives interest to your business?
According to their website this is "because we value your comfort and discretion, we never disclose results...." This protects Paddle 8, not the client.

This protects Paddle 8, not the client. It protects the seller that's for sure. Your edition number is not revealed and no one knows if the piece failed to sell. Opaqueness as its best!

Paddle8 Auctions ๐บ๐ฒ BANKRUPT , by WOOF on Jan 18, 2017 4:15:04 GMT 1, Don't remember ever seeing a book cover go for more than this. It's certainly one of the better images, but with the 20% buyers premium, it's getting pretty pricey.
