Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by mw on Mar 19, 2020 8:30:20 GMT 1, They have not had the virus in a live person long enough to study it to confirm immunity what is being released now is to create calm and prevent mass panic . It’s a standard immune response that once the body has recovered from an infection it acquires immunity, aside from certain rare exceptions or in the event of a rapid mutation. It’s still an assumption but not a wild one.
Exactly that. When antibody test goes live clearer picture will emerge, but very exceptional to be reinfected with same strain.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by Javier on Mar 19, 2020 9:47:28 GMT 1, Private hospitals: offer your beds to the NHS for free!
7.9 million Brits could be hospitalised because of coronavirus -- and right now our NHS doesn’t have enough beds to treat them. Private hospitals want to rent their beds to the NHS for an astronomical £2.4 million a day.
This is a public health emergency -- NOT a business opportunity. Demand all private healthcare firms give the NHS beds and equipment rent free! SumOfUs Petition link In Greece the state passed a law for requisition of private hospital beds and intensive care units.
Spain did too

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by tab1 on Mar 19, 2020 12:03:18 GMT 1, In the uk , the timing is better for the homeless as in the winter months so many volunteers come out on the streets run soup kitchens , hand out meal packs , give some of them social interaction as although on the streets some have no one to talk to all day ..hope an intervention plan has been made for this group as the volunteers that make such a positive impact for these groups will cease if isolation implemented and they provide much needed food in turn keeps fit and immune system up , which as they may be also be super carriers of flu , virus as this group would build up higher immunities as constantly getting flu, infections etc and if lockdown implemented and no where to go would be spreading constantly and these are the last groups to seek medical intervention

As the 1% and up don’t give as**t about $1.5k. You’ll have to decide for urself which artists they are. If anything, all they would need to do is just dangle a 20% C-19 charity carrot and they’ll prolly sell out faster than pre-c19 as people spend to make themselves feel good. Whether that feel good is for investment, charity or they just truly lovee what the art means to them, they’re buying a feeling. 😉 I totally agree with you, especially that the 1% don't really give a crap but those aren't the people buying prints anyway. Just looking at the projected unemployment rates and business closures, I can't help but think that a decent chunk of the print buying market has bigger issues to worry about.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by wrigs on Mar 19, 2020 19:59:24 GMT 1, Is it just me or has anyone else noticed Italy’s death to infection rate is hovering around 10%? I really hope this animal hasn’t mutated to become more deadly ALREADY. cuz damn, 10% is f**kingNUTS! And idiot college kids are partying on beaches like it’s 1999 for spring break here stateside. I get it. They prolly won’t die, but they sure can continue the spread and become hosts to help it continue to mutate and evolve, making it that much harder to stop. Even more frustrating is the lack of government leadership allowing this. Dumb ass deblasio acted a fool in nyc and now it’s the worst city in our country as far as spreading. You just can’t fix stupid I guess...
They won’t feel much like partying when they come to the realisation they helped kill their grandparents 😕

So many people have got it in Italy that they are only testing those in hospital. The figures are probably something like ;
Total cases 600,000 Cases tested 42,000 Deaths 3,205

Also, i imagine we’ll only know the true death rate in a few months. As you say testing is focusing on the sickest people which will skew the death rate in the short-term. Spanish flu death rate was c2.5% so i imagine thats the ballpark C19 will fall into (i.e. not as high as 10% as we’re currently seeing in some places).

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by mw on Mar 19, 2020 20:41:24 GMT 1, Death rate is thought to be around 1-1.5% by the medical profession. Korea is a good indicator as they are the most thorough testers...about 90 deaths and 9000 cases. Death rate won't be able to be calculated until antibody test is done and total number of asymptomatic cases added.
Good to see news is finally showing the chaos in Italy so hopefully people will see what's coming. Still can't believe the lax attitude by so many.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by mw on Mar 19, 2020 20:49:42 GMT 1, My other half is a GP
She's had people asking her to prescribe them loads of paracetamol today. She told them to jog on, what about everybody else. I saw a chap carrying 3 giant packs of bog roll down the road today, I made sure I gave him a long, loud bib.
The selfish society.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by Express Post on Mar 19, 2020 21:09:03 GMT 1, I have noticed galleries are pushing more sales than before. I have been cold called by different directors from different branches of the same gallery offering the same artwork. Happened three times in the last week with three different galleries. Also an artist whose the gallery that usually require you to pledge the work to an institution are now relaxing those terms. Flip market is still solid which means I can march it straight to Christie's no problem, paint still drying.
Actually not a bad time to buy. This will blow over, things will pick up and the world will be whole again.
