Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by kuni on Mar 19, 2020 22:05:24 GMT 1, Has number is sale threads increased in the last couple of days, or is it just me? I made a comment to the same effect. Totally agree, with some pretty juicy offerings.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by mw on Mar 19, 2020 23:55:38 GMT 1, Great! Now they’re saying they believe that at the current rate of infection that an algorithm is saying that 1/2 of Californian’s will get C19. Some don’t know this, but we have the population in our state that’s greater than countries like Poland or Canada. That’s like 20 million people w/ c-19. If the death rate is really increasing to roughly 10% like in Italy. That would mean 2 million of my friends and neighbors will die. Holys**t! That’s just horrible. Another sad and horrible thing I saw was how local govt’s are urging people to have virtual funerals. Really depressing stuff. Really depressing.
Death rate is 1% not 10% Death rate might be 10% of those tested, but they only test small percentage of this who have it. Capeesh?

I wasn’t spreading “disinformation”, but QUOTING the WHO site. Any issues I would recommend taking up with them. 🤷🏼♂️
But I agree, I don’t think we’ll EVER know the true infection rate. It’s quite possible some of the early super spreaders never got tested and never even knew they had it, as well as many others that got over it swiftly.
I know of a few people and their families that are self isolating now that have the symptoms. They are not being tested and told to stay at home unless their symptoms become much worse. The only ones being tested at the moment are people that are being admitted to hospital to receive critical care or the few that are paying or private health.
You said the death rate is increasing to 10%, the fact is it isn’t. That’s disinformation which is part of the reason we are seeing this collective global mass hysteria. The WHO states that 8% (not 10%) of CONFIRMED CASES are resulting in death in Italy (not globally). The vast majority of confirmed cases are people with acute symptoms and not at all representative of all people who have contracted the virus. Countries simply don’t have the capacity to test mild and moderate suspected cases, anecdotally the number of people displaying symptoms and not getting tested (or people who carry the virus but not displaying symptoms) is said by UK health advisers to be perhaps 10x confirmed cases. Once we have a better understanding of the numbers through improved testing then we will know death rates which I suspect will be considerably lower than a lot of the figures I see banded about like facts.

The more the delays in uk to enforce an isolation a similar situation may occur in 4 weeks , as clearly people are not taking the advice and people are still going to pubs , restaurants , large social gatherings , even at supermarkets , large close gatherings around certain products lanes , which advice is 2m distancing , When people start suffering severe symptoms they will rush to hospitals , delaying tactics until the government have things in place is unwise .
Visited a hospital last week , no medical staff with face masks or gloves which should of been minimum ppe by then

Definately restricted information being held back The army has been understaffed for years and the uk has many deployments across the world , using the army to nationally enforce an isolation would deplete already low numbers and would have an effect on national defence , further risking defences if personnel were infected . A staggered approach is probably put in place until they have more research carried out which means more infected people needs to be studied . Buying time until more medical equipment that is needed is put in place , eu have last few days passed a law permitting medical equipment priority to eu member countries only , medical staff in the uk have not even basic Ppe which is the only defence they have at the moment , if medical staff are infected the whole system will break down as no replacements can be bought In from Europe or America or India which nhs sector relies on for tempory staff , nurses , consultants , surgeons . Thereby letting the weak die that would be taking a strain on the system in preparation for what is happening in Spain an Italy , the uk are two weeks behind ?

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by jimmyjam on Mar 20, 2020 4:57:18 GMT 1, Great!
It’s shocking to see how many people in California are not staying home and just wandering outside. I have never seen the parks so crowded in my life. Even the downtowns have people wandering around. Some stores are even open. Costco and some outdoor malls are full of people. No one here is wearing any protective gear whatsoever and it really seems no one here believes they can get it. Seeing groups of people playing basketball and all types of sports is crazy right now. With this mentality more than 50% will get the virus in California unfortunately.
Also flying out or New York the other day I was surprised 98% of the employees and customers were not wearing any protective gear and many were all just standing in large groups. There was a large Hasidic Jewish group just walking around in the airport, right after a new report in the nytimes about the virus spreading rapidly in that community because they refuse to believe nyc officials about how bad this virus is. They continue to gather in massive groups despite the outbreaks. The groups was coughing and everything with no masks or anything whatsoever. Saw a group of kids in the group taking photos and laughing at people with masks on. Americans don’t seem to believe they can get it. I would not be surprised if America ended up one of the most infected countries in the world.
As crazy as this sounds... did China do this on purpose? Why do I feel that China will end up taking advantage of all this? They knew about this virus since last November and never said a word to the rest of the world. They allowed it to spread for months without saying anything. They also didn’t allow any doctors from the west to research the virus for months. Now all of a sudden there a no new case in China? Which I think is a lie, but still. Kicking out all the US media as well doesn’t help their image. I would not be surprised if China financially takes over a lot of devastated countries after all this; especially in Europe. Yes, this could be a crazy theory but don’t be surprised if it happens.

on a serious note , many countries have now closed borders and a few complete lockdowns this is very serious no matter how much governments restrict information to the media , the action countries are taking displays this .
the media keeps comparing Italy to uk and panic buying in shops and displays all is normal in shops, not really comparable , Italy is in lockdown ,they need papers to travel out, have police and army to enforce numbers , shops only allow limited numbers in and supervise limits on items .if potential of being isolated and on lockdown many people would want to purchase items now to limit exposure of having to travel out to restock. how can see what is happening world wide and asking people to carry on as normal?

Panic buying is only gonna get worse for now. Why? Cuz who wants to keep going to the store risking getting the virus when you can just buy a months worth and truly stay at home? Especially when all the kids are out of school and ur working from home too. If u have enough supplies u can truly end the cycle for ur family.
Luckily here we have lots of independents that people never bothered with before but are now in high demand. They'll deliver fruit and veg boxes no problem. Same with meat and other goods. If I go to the supermarket I do it at about 9pm when there arent many around. Not sure whens the right time to bust out the mask.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by mw on Mar 20, 2020 9:13:43 GMT 1, True death rate won't be attainable until an antibody test is rolled out to whole populations. This will give a true picture about who's has it.
Those that didn't make it will have been tested in hospital generally. There is scepticism about death numbers in the US early on due to Trumps shambolic management and not enough tests.
One thing to bare in mind is different Intensive care cultures. In the UK we are quite pragmatic. We won't be keeping a 90 year old alive for 5 weeks on life support whereas some counties would. Obviously these people will succumb eventually and figures will equalise.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by beicoblack on Mar 20, 2020 11:33:15 GMT 1, I hope everyone is healthy and safe out there... but are there no other forums where you guys can share your conspiracy theories? This is all over the news and web anyways and this is one of the places which could give us at least a bit of distraction.

I skip the conspiracies, if I read them I think Id have dug out a bunker by now 🤣
Rather than share the love it appears to be spread the fear.
My mindset is stay positive, its well known your body responds well when you think positively.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by mojo on Mar 20, 2020 12:04:26 GMT 1, I imagine it must be really awful being isolated in a mansion in the sunshine with a full kitchen and a pool ...ah bless. However that is NO excuse for this massive monstrosity of noise made by a collection of the worlds most over inflated ego's. Completely unnecessary. I would say more ear bleeding than heart warming.
