Banksy™ Thrower Prints Set, Gross Domestic Product™, by Inknart on Aug 14, 2020 16:19:34 GMT 1, Today I visited a framer which was a recommendation and he seems to have a good reputation. When I asked for a price he said about 550€ for museum glass quality or about 350€ for acrylic for the Thrower. Didnt talk about all three pieces but I am a bit surprised about the "cheap" price compared to folks here talking about 2.000+ for all three. Any advice? The talk of over £2k seemed nuts to me. 3 Custom Frames with Museum Acrylic for the 3 Thrower pieces at 2k seems about right. I imagine the bigger piece alone would run 800 to do right. I would be framing them and then putting them inside a large acrylic casing for extra protection. Would skip 0 corners with these pieces and get the highest quality of everything, frame, matte, acrylic....

I have gotten about 4 quotes so far and they range from 1800 to 2300 in USD. I would be careful with anyone offering to frame it properly under $1500

Banksy™ Thrower Prints Set, Gross Domestic Product™, by Graham H on Aug 14, 2020 17:51:31 GMT 1, The problem with this is that if you told most ' normal ' people you were spending £2k on some picture frames they would look at you as if you were nuts.. and to most people that is an incredible amount of money.. likewise for a lot of the winners ( and many on here who collect as well) .. and thats why even £500 sounds such a massive amount
However, it comes down to risk and reward i guess.. paying £500 could be a good deal and all works out well and is fine for years to come and everyone is a winner, conversely, spending £2k and getting full details of how its been framed and some form of reassurance that its a reputable framer and even a guarantee of its framing would hopefully give peace of mind.. The difference between the £500 and £2k now seems massive, but in years to come all being well that £1500 will pale into insignificance in the value of the piece if is well framed and in great condition, or poorly framed and its not in great condition
It could also be said that paying £2k isnt a guarantee it will be perfect as and when its unframed years down the line, but should give a better chance.. in most cases with framing ive found you get what you pay for..
Either way.. congrats to all that won and they really do look spectacular.. cant wait to see some framed up

That's your own opinion.

You’re going to get a lot of different opinions on that one, the post above stating you definitely have to replicate the GDP shop display framing is utter rubbish. It’s going to be hanging on your wall for a long time so it needs to be what you want, I would suggest discussing options with the framer you chose and it may be worth taking along a picture of the space you plan to hang it (Other furniture in the room, size of space and position on wall etc) as that would play a big part in how I would choose framing options.
I personally would go with the black ornate, others will say that’s too bland and lacks colour but I personally like the contrast of the black and white.

Anyone who frames this differently doesn’t understand what they have bought. What's with the butthurt? I mean not all of us are art experts and shit like this makes me not want to even bother posting pics of the Thrower.. Aaron asked a question which was legit. If the frame was part of the artwork, it would have come framed. The point was a bit aggressively made, but I think he's correct about the framing style being intended as part of the art. If the artist specifies framing then I'd always follow it as closely as I could. Other GDP pieces only specified archival materials, not moulding styles.
Obviously totally up to you how you frame it, but I would follow the specifications. If, for example, you had it all floated in clean white frames, it would look completely different to the one Banksy displayed.

Banksy™ Thrower Prints Set, Gross Domestic Product™, by Knowss on Aug 15, 2020 14:23:43 GMT 1, It’s the opinion of the artist. I guess if you know, you know.
If that was the case instructions would be more specific and not just mention "ornate" and wouldn't have given 2 options for one of the pieces. I think what matters the most is hanging it right. But again that's just my opinion, like the one above was nothing more than your opinion. When you receive yours you can frame it identical to the display.

Banksy™ Thrower Prints Set, Gross Domestic Product™, by chefd on Aug 15, 2020 15:48:36 GMT 1, I have a question, with top quality framing and spec'd as per the instruction with the print, if you chose the oval frame option, what are the chances of any issues down the line with discoloration between the covered/uncovered part of the center print?
The purist in me loves the oval look, the scarredy pants in me prefer the rectangular option.

There could be the option of getting the print framed as you want, but have the oval section as a clip on to be used for special occasions.

Even with top level framing options (UV acrylic, etc.) there is a reasonable chance of a fading/non-fading demarcation where that mat rested on the print, unless you keep the art in an area that gets little to no sunlight. This is true of an oval mat or a square/rectangular mat, as all mats cover some of the print edge, though the former covers a lot more of the print - as you suggest. This is why many opt for floating the print or other techniques that avoid mats.
