Banksquiat Appraisal and Insurance Advice, by mikegood on Mar 9, 2020 23:19:39 GMT 1, Hi all, here is the story- and I'm sure a few others here have the same problem/question and would appreciate advice from more seasoned collectors...
Looking for advice on appraising and insuring the Banksquiat in the United States (or to obtain a policy that location does not matter). I've never insured art in the past and have gotten mixed messages when reaching out to CHUBBS brokers. Specifically, I'm told I need an appraisal. Should most appraisers be able to put a quote together based on a different edition of prints? I'm also getting mixed messages from the 2 I've contacted and am not sure if I should pay their fee's for them to basically appraise it at $830 USD.
**Not looking to sell, just looking to protect the artwork, A. for transportation to the framer, and B. in case it's ever damaged or stolen.
Any and all advice is a huge help, and I thank you and the few people I've messaged about this already!!

Banksquiat Appraisal and Insurance Advice, by whatisart on Mar 10, 2020 19:58:41 GMT 1, did not need an appraisal when grouping the Chubb valuable item policy with renter's or home owner's insurance. it says only those pieces worth in excess of $250K. hope this helps.

I've talked to a few Chubbs brokers. One told me I needed an appraisal, and he'd be happy to insure me. The other two told me I Chubbs wouldn't group with homeowners unless I was covered with at least a million dollar policy. I don't think my 2-250k apartment is covered for a million, but I'll look.
