Recommended Art Books, by Reader on May 18, 2022 12:19:33 GMT 1, New in: The Debrist Manifesto by Scott King. If you are not familiar with his work, check it out ( www.scottking.co.uk/archive ) Extract from Interview magazine: JON SAVAGE: In a way, it’s an ‘anti-success handbook’ - the direct opposite of all those self-improvement books. Is that deliberate? SCOTT KING: Someone else suggested that it could have been called How To Be A Loser In The Art World, which I thought was funny, and there is an element of that, but it’s broader than that too. I didn’t set out to write it as an ‘anti-self-help’ book. Quite the opposite, really. I wrote it as ‘my truth’, I didn’t edit it, I just let it pour out… the manifesto, ultimately, is about embracing ‘failure’, looking for the excitement and potential within that – you know – rather than being in a state of constant frustration/fury/misery because you do not have what it is you think you want; it is about embracing what you do have, even if that seems like shit. www.serviceindustries.co.uk/various/the-debrist-manifesto-standard-edition Got the signed 1st edition and a regular that's now a greasy thumbed copy. Loved it. Hugely underarted artist deserving of far more attention. Up there with Deller, Turk, Emin etc IMO

Recommended Art Books, by kfroms on May 20, 2022 12:44:09 GMT 1, Just went to see the Cornelia Parker exhibition at Tate Britain. Certainly one of the best exhibitions in recent time. Go and see it, it’s on till mid October. Very nice catalogue to go with it!
While there, it is worth seeing the Walter Sickert exhibition as well. Quite dark but very very good.

Recommended Art Books, by kfroms on May 23, 2022 15:14:35 GMT 1, I want one too… long way to drive. I’ve contacted the Caves IG profile and they don’t ship or sell online… Another Stik Item that I will dream about getting I think. I bet there are expeditions of flippers already on their way…
I may go there in a few weeks but, as you said, by then everything signed by Stik will be easily available on Ebay.

Recommended Art Books, by John The Badgers on May 30, 2022 16:49:13 GMT 1, Had a great trip to Clearwell Caves today to see the sculpture exhibition, the nice lady I spoke to last week put this aside for me -
Stik has done a fantastic mural in one of the caves, 'Ochre Man' -
I did try and see whether there were any more of the signed books available, but was advised he only did 24 of them, and they all went in the first day or so.

Some nice pieces on display, the Stik mural is brilliant.
Why 'Ochre Man' I hear you say? It was what used to be mined there apparently.
Apologies I couldn't grab any guides for anybody, but I do like being prepared, and have a spare canary? Nice little fella, certainly in a better mood than when I took him in there.
Have a great trip.

Not fun.

Would certainly recommend the Alex James autobiography if you haven't read it, one of the best music autobiographies I have read.
I too received the Jarvis Cocker poster, but just checked, my book wasn't signed? Cant recall if this was the deal or not?

They replied and said it was only the poster that was signed, but apologised saying that is was obviously very unclear as they'd been inundated with messages about unsigned books!
I'm only on Chapter Two, but it's a great read so far though.

Only saw that the book is unsigned when arriving at home, my order clearly stated “signed book”. Rough Trade offered me to send it back, which I did. Bought a signed one off the bay for just under 30gbp so not too bad after all

That said, unleashed my patented leaving it in my steamy bathroom for 20 minutes, then over the weekend between some MDF board, and now flatter than a pint at my local during 'Happy Hour'.
Nice little poster mind, and really looking forward to reading the book - appreciate the post EKAP.
