Recommended Art Books, by mojo on Sept 23, 2024 9:58:54 GMT 1, An 'unofficial' Banksy - Raisonne on street works. "The future bible for real Banksy works",... really? "and not the more clinical studio works that are essentially derivatives of the real thing" ...and yet, 'the more clinical derivative studio works' as he calls them are official artworks that receive COA's, unlike the street works.
Why didn't Richard Hessink just publish a collection of photographs of Banksy Street pieces? I think its a bit misleading stating it as an official Banksy Catalogue Raisonne particularly as the street pieces do not qualify for authentication from the artists official authenticity office. *edit I've just seen there is already a thread about it link

Why ? Because it’s the first catalogue raisonné about Banksy, and no one else would make another one, specially Banksy. It’s a book made by a fan ( if I well understood ), I just hope that he credited the photographers.

Hi Lroy, what people spend their money on is their business, my point is that it's misleading to title it a catalogue raisonne particularly as it catalogues works that are not authenticated by the artists authenticity office. Catalogue raisonne are generally published by the artist and or artist representative ie. pest control. I don't consider a fan releasing a book of photographs of an artists work an official enough publication to warrant being classed as a catalogue raisonne, and no I don't think, from reading the thread, that the photographers were credited. I will stick to raisons on my breakfast cereal

Recommended Art Books, by John The Badgers on Sept 23, 2024 18:23:08 GMT 1, Not an art book granted, but know there have been some cracking music books posted over the years on the fab Book Thread.
Listening to the lovely Etta James over the weekend, if I could recommend her autobigraphy, 'Rage to Survive', a great read to say the least.
Some lifestyle choices that would have Keith Richards raising an eye brow and tutting -
One of my most treasured items as she signed it for me in the early '90's -

I was travelling in Germany this week and happened to be in Düsseldorf on Monday and got to see Moby play one of his few concerts to celebrate 25 years of “Play” Needless to say it was fabulous. Moby is just great.
Read and enjoyed both his memoirs - Porcelain covers the early years and ends with the launch of “Play” And then it fell apart anything after that till approx 2019
Moby did a book reading a few years back and I got my signed and doodled. A cherished one.

Besides recommending anyone in the area to stop by, i would like to point out two publications also available online, a HIERBA book also available in a limited edition, signed and numbered; as well as an oversized fanzine. Here the pics of mine

For those interested, I would like to point out that they still have some signed books of Moses and Taps

I saw that a member received a Escif big book ! As for the Fragile one ( they told me it was shipped but did not sent me any tracking number ), still no news from here !
I think that I don’t know if I will still buy all these books, a bit fed up to pay a lot of shipping anc big taxes, and as for vinyls, preorders are really boring : nothing is happening.

I recommend checking to see if an order of more items might keep the same costs. I also bought the large zine and I can assure you that it is a real cameo (just consider that is italian - English language); however I think it is shipped folded like a newspaper, even the one I bought at the show was folded.
I’m really happy to have been to the exhibition for the opportunity to meet Escif in person, and for this gems…
I also took a copy of Topsprayer - Moses and Taps and it’s a superb book.

He made a limited edition of 50 and I am the lucky owner of one of those copies. In each of those 50 copies, Bastianen colored a page by hand.

I think the number was just a matter of how to package the books and divide them up between the different kickstarters. I can't help you yet since I haven't received mine, but as soon as I get mine I'll let you know what the numbers are, although I think it's irrelevant... anyhow …cool drawing Lroy 🔥

Recommended Art Books, by kfroms on Oct 8, 2024 10:41:43 GMT 1, Went to a few previews at Sotheby’s and Christie’s this week and was reminded how wonderful some of the auction catalogues can be. I kept a few over the years - they are a not only a good source to learn about art and artists , there are also a nice reminder what a massive elitist bubble the art market is.
Anyway, here one of my favourites. Post war and Contemporary Evening Sale Christie’s New York, November 2012
A heavy thing, 380 pages long and filled with 60+ lots of the most amazing art. This is catalogue version with the Warhol 3D cover of the main lot “Statue of Liberty”
