I see the shape of some faces aswell, but I think it is just way the photo is when zoomed.
I also think it could be a snake, but the pattern doesn't look right. The lino is a bit raised there also though.
It could be referring to the behaviour of the rats while a danger is lurking.

The whole bathroom must be covered in rats because the mirror is reflecting a rat counting down the days of incarceration on a wall not pictured. I'm sure the mirror is not a coincedenceโฆ.. Why would he paint walls that can't be seen?
And here I thought he painted the mirror.

Thinking about this more, I wonder if it is a bloody distraction! Forgetting all about the bedlam the rats are causing because we are too intrigued about what's in that hole.
