Julian Opie ๐ฌ๐ง Statuette โข Pop Art Portrait โข Lenticular , by John The Badgers on Apr 6, 2021 20:49:07 GMT 1, You are spot on dmatt, and do agree with your comments.
Have a degree of sympathy with the nice people at The Julian Opie Shop, a right nice outlet, they must get the right hump when the Shysters are palming these out on eBay.
A definite fan of Opie here, and some really 'affordable' nice items available there on the site.
Obviously a top draw artist, and perhaps a great example of what some of these other Top Dogs out there could do to make their 'art' more available to people with genuine interest, who cant run to prints.
Price aside, still say these are a lovely item.

Julian Opie ๐ฌ๐ง Statuette โข Pop Art Portrait โข Lenticular , by bigj on Apr 6, 2021 21:06:27 GMT 1, I didn't hesitate to pay 2x original price when the 2nd batch of melbourne's landed in the shop and I didn't hesitate to pay the higher ask on these. These display very nicely and I think the asking price is completely fair. As another poster already noted, the Melbournes attract far higher secondary market prices than the current ask on the Boston series.
I think they were just initially priced way too low - if you picked them up at that original price then congrats!
I don't get the impression that the Opie shop is set up for 'drops' that are meant to attract instant sell-outs and huge volumes of orders in short-order. I think they're trying to bring the price up to a level where it doesn't instantly sell out.
I know its not apples to apples but even at the current 'inflated' pricing these are still a fraction of what kaws asks for his unsigned open edition vinyl toys.

Julian Opie ๐ฌ๐ง Statuette โข Pop Art Portrait โข Lenticular , by Charlie Bronson on Apr 8, 2021 22:27:20 GMT 1, I bought a few a couple of years ago. Fwiw I absolutely love these, even though theyโre just trinkets. They really display well when paired up(a shadow is blocking the one on the left). Theyโll sell out Iโm sure, so why wouldnโt Julian choose to make more money? I would. He doesnโt owe any of his fans anything tbh.

Julian Opie ๐ฌ๐ง Statuette โข Pop Art Portrait โข Lenticular , by Levi Stubbs Tears on Apr 13, 2021 9:19:08 GMT 1, I have just listed this on eBay but happy to deal with someone direct on the forum. This limited edition signed screenprint by world-renowned artist Julian Opie on Somerset Satin paper rarely comes available. Called 'Elena, schoolgirl (with lotus blossom)', this is Julian's portrait of his daughter in his own inimitable style and was released in 2006. Image size: 46cm x 35.7cm; sheet size 51cm x 39.7cm. Edition of 100 and framed by Railings Gallery in 2012. Price I've quoted on eBay is ยฃ7,250.
Sold now. Thx to all for their interest.

Julian Opie ๐ฌ๐ง Statuette โข Pop Art Portrait โข Lenticular , by Charlie Bronson on Apr 17, 2021 2:22:16 GMT 1, If by chance you get to see it in person before purchasing, pay close attention to the black areas in and around the girl. The genuine ones have an almost velvet texture in the black areas, whereas the knockoffs donโt. I absolutely love mine. They look amazing framed up.

I tried to resist for the past month, but I couldnโt help myself. They really do look amazing when grouped in multiples. I swear this hobby of ours is like a drug at times.

Julian Opie ๐ฌ๐ง Statuette โข Pop Art Portrait โข Lenticular , by startimeash on May 8, 2021 21:12:20 GMT 1, I guess these are ideal for faking if you have a laser cutter; people are going to assume that itโs too much effort when compared to faking a print, but could see these being a piece of piss. Thanks for the heads up!

Julian Opie ๐ฌ๐ง Statuette โข Pop Art Portrait โข Lenticular , by Happy Shopper on May 8, 2021 21:22:47 GMT 1, If anyone is looking to acquire a Julian Opie Australian statuette on secondary be vigilant as it looks like fake versions are in existence.ย If you compare the images (fakes) below to images of the originals you will see many differences and obvious signs.ย This is the first time I have seen fake Australian Statuettes so thought it would be worth sharing.

By the looks of these, not as easy to fake as someone thought! ๐

Julian Opie ๐ฌ๐ง Statuette โข Pop Art Portrait โข Lenticular , by rungsp on Jun 12, 2021 13:54:55 GMT 1, Somehow I have now got two copies of this...and they are a bit different.
Number one I bought from a member here who sold it framed. I have just hung it and not unframed it. I have no reason to doubt his legitimacy, he was selling several various things at the time, including another Opie. He told me he bought it several years previously (in the same frame) from somebody whose place he went to that had a load of Opies on the walls. It is distinctly red.
Number two I recently bought elsewhere from somebody at a very good price indeed, he was worried that it was damaged and had reduced the price a lot. The damage to the edges is very minimal and would easily be framed out. It is distinctly more orange, still red if viewed on its own, but side by side this one is orangy-red
I'm giving it to my daughter as a new flat moving in gift.
I can't help but wonder if one is legit and the other fake...but if so then which one?! (Both seem to have very deep black on the black bits)
Any thoughts or advice??
