eBay - GSP, by wrigs on May 11, 2020 11:24:45 GMT 1, Anyone a regular user of EBay and know what the point of GSP is? Seems to add a hefty figure to the transaction and not clear of cost on listing.

I guess it's a shipping service for those who don't want to be bothered with international shipping. So they can send it to an eBay point and then eBay ships it to the buyer.
Which makes shipping a lot more expensive then regular postage. They also include the import taxes when applicable already. So not possible to mark a package with lower value to avoid taxes.

The price of shipping is ok, but they buy the cheapest possible routes. I have had a package from California to London go by road to Seattle, then Detroit, Miami, and finally Texas to be flown out.
The sales tax and processing fees applied are simply insane, you can easily end up paying 30% all in for artwork that should be taxed at 5% + some fixed fees
great for sellers though as they have nothing to do

eBay - GSP, by wrigs on May 11, 2020 11:45:14 GMT 1, Yeah I’m short it’s stopping me buying the thing as it’s adding a huge cost to the transaction which makes it not worthwhile.
Thanks for the heads up. Makes a little morse sense now just confusing as purchased stuff previously without.

It’s all well and good marking packages at a lower value to do a stranger a favour and save them on taxes, until something gets damaged and you need to make a claim. I’m pretty sure the receiver wouldn’t offer any help with your loses. Ive used global shipping quite a few times and always been good and the buyers have never complained as they know where they stand with cost. Also the way I see it if eBay loses or damage it they know exactly what’s in it and how much it cost making it easier to claim.I’ve never had to make a claim against them though as always been good.

Yes, this is true. When I'm asked to lower the value I make it clear it's insured for the same amount. AT THEIR RISK. And it would require payment as F&F , since otherwise they can file a PayPal complaint and I'll be left with the low Insurance payment.
So indeed there's more to consider. But sometimes GSP adds so much costs to the purchase price it's just not worth it anymore. Mostly with lower priced items. Makes a difference if you pay $50 more on a $50 item. Or on a 5K item.....

eBay - GSP, by That Print Guy on May 11, 2020 14:39:26 GMT 1, The global shipping program is great for buyers that aren't price sensitive. GSP is AMAZING for a seller. Package lost on the way over the pond? Buyer gets a refund, I keep my money. Damage? Buyer gets a refund, I keep my money. For sellers it's a dream, for buyers that want to skirt customs it's a nightmare. Buyers that want what they want and want it guaranteed or their money back, they buy and they buy often. I sell internationally almost exclusively through GSP, even when given the choice the majority of my buyers are choosing to use GSP.
USPS rejects any claims for international items damaged. FedEx doesn't insure art (they also administer USPS's GXG service). Buyer received the package but then makes a claim of non receipt? Good luck getting a copy of their signature to prove to PayPal/eBay that they got it. Sometimes the final delivery never even scans making it even easier to claim non receipt.
Buyers that I've done business with before can deal directly with me. In that case I ship USPS first class packed heavily with a $20 value marked as a gift. Flies through customs and lands the same time as the more expensive services, fwiw.

eBay - GSP, by wrigs on May 11, 2020 17:01:36 GMT 1, To be clear I’m not looking to low ball price etc and happy to pay customs. Happy to pay the asking and postal. It’s just the best part of $400 (also includes a postal charge, which is confusing if GSP covers postal) makes the item more expensive than I want to pay.
Ebays description of GSP doesn’t help matters.

eBay - GSP, by Art Fan 2011 on May 12, 2020 16:42:22 GMT 1, Like many, I wont buy from sellers using it anymore! The "I dont care once its shipped" attitude is not the kinda seller I want to deal with.
Delivery takes forever, using the worst carriers (Yodel) in the UK. Last thing I purchased took 29 days US-UK, without GSP it could of taken just 3 days.
System also open to abuse, seller sells you damaged print, you then have to make a claim, they make a claim, everyone gets a payout - Ebay getting alot stricter on it now which will probably lead to even less using it.
