Print Signed Front or Back?, by rbt on May 22, 2020 17:30:49 GMT 1, Any thoughts on if it makes a difference if print is signed on front or back?
Obviously once framed - back signed is not visible.

Print Signed Front or Back?, by H.R. on May 22, 2020 18:11:37 GMT 1, I prefer signed works. And I do prefer front facing. I find it fun when some folks, like Scharf for instance, sign within the work where you have to look to find it and the print number. Not sure if he does it on all of them though.
I do own non-signed prints, as I agree w/ gun, I buy art for the art, not because I hope it may make me rich one day. It doesn’t mean that I don’t buy art that folks don’t get, it may not be beautiful to some. Some art, especially urban art can be much more about the message than artistic wow factor.

Print Signed Front or Back?, by JL Broooks on May 22, 2020 18:11:55 GMT 1, Prints should always be signed on the front, originals can be signed on the back (although I would prefer on the front as well).

Print Signed Front or Back?, by Gurn on May 22, 2020 18:17:03 GMT 1, I prefer a nice bold signature on the front. It seems strange that an artist would go to the trouble of making art just to put their sign on the bit that people don't see....and initials are just lazy. "Ooh I dodged such a busy day today, they wanted me to do my whole signature, a whole 100 times." Pah! 😃

Print Signed Front or Back?, by billybob1969 on May 22, 2020 23:08:43 GMT 1, I couldn’t care less where they sign but obviously prefer signed pieces simply because it’s had some contact with the artist and shows that it has their blessing. I own a few unsigned pieces and love them but would of course paid more for a signed piece if available/affordable.

Print Signed Front or Back?, by nobokov on May 27, 2020 14:54:47 GMT 1, I ask all artists to sign large on the front and back, so that I can brag to my art friends that it had some connection to the artist. Otherwise it's just a piece of paper that the artist may or may not have touched.

Print Signed Front or Back?, by pellets on May 27, 2020 19:12:32 GMT 1, Ah, good spot. I meant blind stamp! Why do you think photos shouldn't be blind stamped..maybe on a white border so not on the image? Just interested..
I think blind stamps are awesome and can lend a really cool effect to an image and/or provenance for a print.
However, on a photograph it distorts the image cos there isnt much border and it bends the paper in what I feel is an undesirable manner. With photos you put a lot of effort into making sure there are no finger prints or anything on the image, so why would I want a stamp on the surface of the photo?
By replying to you it probably sounds like I care about this more than I actually do. Its an “ugh” moment but I still like the print and will frame it when I get the chance. It hasn’t destroyed the image, just marred how I feel about it.
