I emailed the gallery and they said BANKSY gave away a bunch of his signature plates and screwed himself. Is there any truth to this or is this urban legend?

90% seems like a large number. As I imagine 90% of the worlds art doesn’t have much value to waste your time faking.

Then just look at ebay there are thousands of his fake crap gone through in sales, then the one's for sale. If you search Banksy on liveauctionees and invaluable (not even counting the other platforms) there has been thousands of his fakes sold and for sale, and I mean thousands. I see a few hundred every week when I'm looking for lots. I don't even bother posting them up here as there are so many.
Some sell from $50 to five figure sums.
That's only one artist, finding real art is harder

I get the impression that the guy is desperate in this C-19 climate. I’m not trying to burn the guy to the ground. He may just be an idiot that got sold on this BANKSY plate story by whoever made and convinced him to sell these pieces of shiitt. 🤷🏼♂️

Although. There was a time when BANKSY clearly hated copyrights and everything they stood for, which is why I’m curious if this urban legend has any weight.

There are a few categories:
- Authorised poster or other collectable
- Signed original
- Authorised and sanctioned unsigned original
- Unauthorised reproduction (signed or unsigned) even if it was the original paper, plated or person printing it
If you’re selling the last category as one of the other two above it it’s fraud... The term “after” is a loaded one.
The best example of a high quality but honestly disclosed reproduction would be the Sunday B Morning series after Warhol. It’s clear it’s not an authorised genuine Warhol but the quality is great...
