Dran large canvas for sale, by sharky on Jun 23, 2020 10:56:10 GMT 1, Hi everyone! Sorry for setting-up another thread but I could not recover the other one
I am putting this back on sale here as yesterday this didn't reach my reserve at Digard (so it was not sold there). I am not in a rush to sell or selling this out (no COVID fire sale), so I have time to review offers that will come. I have done several transactions here before (including for this piece – if you search old posts you can find it) and can provide references. I am based in Rome, Italy, but the painting is in Paris ready for shipping.
The details of the painting are the following: Name: Fuck! Medium: Spray Paint on Canvas Dimensions: 100cm X 50cm Date: 2007 Provenance: Acquired directly from artist's studio by the former owner acquired by myself from the above COA: Yes Edition: unique
Overall conditions are very good. The wood framework where the canvas has been mounted doesn’t look “new” but I would not consider that an issue.
Price: looking for offers, shipping and transaction costs (if any) are on the buyer.
Happy to provide further pictures or reply to your queries via PM.
Thanks for looking!

Dran large canvas for sale, by tiny poubelle on Jun 23, 2020 12:31:16 GMT 1, A few pieces struggled yesterday. In fact, I’m not sure any of the Drans met their reserve. Wasn’t a great auction all round.
Good luck with the sale. It’s probably not the most wall-friendly piece but it’s a good size and a well executed, recognisable Dran so hopefully you’ll have plenty of interest.

I don’t think Digard itself can be « blamed » for this piece not to sell, it simply tells you that your / their estimates was too ambitious for the artwork. It’s true though that Artcurial used to have a stronger history with DRAN’s results (whether because images consigned were stronger or something to do with their client basis / marketing) but some strong images have recently shown up in other auction houses, which is positive to be able to test the artist’s market depth. Would be interested to see how some DRAN artworks are doing at non-Paris based auction houses as well (as some many UK collectors) but it will be a gamble for you. Also bear in mind that once an artwork like yours doesn’t sell at a well advertised auction, it used to be considered as « burned » for a little while (ie. not accepted on consignment quickly afterwards elsewhere). This might not be entirely true anymore as so many 2nd-3rd Tier auction houses have popped up and are desperate to accept « anything » just to try their / your luck again and keep their business going, so you might actually not suffer from that past practice. For all those reasons, as mentioned by other members here, I agree your best chance is the private route now but you will have to re-consider its pricing to find an interested part. Good luck

This is how they add patina to “antiquities” btw.

^^^^^^^ sound advice. Absolutely burned. Pull it down and wait for someone to ask to buy it or bust it out and try again in 5 or 6 years.

Dran large canvas for sale, by met on Sept 9, 2020 16:17:58 GMT 1, Hi everyone! Sorry for setting-up another thread but I could not recover the other one I am putting this back on sale here as yesterday this didn't reach my reserve at Digard (so it was not sold there). The wood framework where the canvas has been mounted doesn’t look “new” but I would not consider that an issue. Price: offers above Euro17k, plus shipping and transaction costs (if any). Happy to provide further pictures or reply to your queries via PM. Thanks for looking!
Regarding the artwork itself, my issues with it are both visual and conceptual:
The pink drip to the left-centre of the canvas seems clearly unintentional, and presumably occurred while painting the air balloon above. For whatever reason, Dran chose to leave it in the finished piece. This was arguably an error of judgement. My own eyes are immediately drawn towards that drip, to the point where it becomes highly distracting — diminishing the overall work.
Is that a computer monitor being held up by Libertas's left arm and hand? The meaning of such replacement for the tablet with the date of the Declaration of Independence is unclear to me. But I also don't find the resulting ambiguity to be especially interesting.
Hi all, any experience with Tate Ward? I am not sure I want to try another French auction house! Thanks! I can thoroughly recommend Tate Ward. May I suggest that you lower your price expectations - I’m a big fan of Dran and have been following his market for some time. Image, style and subject is everything - size and medium are lower down the list of price indicators compared to other artists. I personally wouldn’t bother going to auction in the UK or France unless your price point in substantially lower. This is my honest assessment. Best of luck.
Looking for offers. Thanks! I am looking for offers around Euro15k
The substantial lowering of seller price expectations was the most sound advice I spotted on this thread.
Sadly, that advice was not heeded.

Agreed that this piece has been burned — and completely unnecessarily — by what I would describe (frankly and without malice) as sharky's foolish approach to reselling a one-off painting.
I would personally delete the thread. Its a good piece, people will buy it, and probably at a higher price then.
Entire threads can only be deleted by forum Admin.
That said, I also believe it's contrary to the higher interest of the forum and its members for posts or threads to be deleted. Even the nastiest ones have potential to offer beneficial educational opportunities.
Here, we have an excellent case study on how not to sell unique artworks.
This has value to the wider forum, even if it's at the expense of one member.

Dran large canvas for sale, by tiny poubelle on Sept 9, 2020 18:24:13 GMT 1, I agree with Vincent and others that the best thing to do with this canvas is to stop trying to sell it. It’s a nice canvas and people will want to buy it but let them seek you out. Put it away for a while, if you can afford to.

I wouldn’t worry about that. A lot of my original paintings have drips on them. It’s quite common, particularly with Dran works. Works on paper with tears in them, holes (intentional and unintentional). It would t bother me at all.

Dran large canvas for sale, by sharky on Sept 9, 2020 20:37:42 GMT 1, All, burnt or not, I am not going to close/delete the thread so that people can continue to comment and express opinions...after all, this is the essence of the forum. For me is a lesson learned and I appreciate all the comments.
I don't remember if I already said it, but I am not in the need to sell this, it's just my wife that does not want to have it on the wall anymore. I will therefore take your suggestion and wait for any spontaneous proposal or wait some year.
Thanks!
