Banksys Flags is most definitely based on the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima photo which incidentally was a staged photo, it happened but they reenacted the scene for the photo. |

There was a documentary on the flag raising that states and evidenced it was not staged although it was the second flag to be raised

Yes. Although there is only one extra child in the B image (The flag bearer) which is a direct lift from the Iwo Jima image. Arguably this Makes the image and title but predominantly it’s more a lift of the Reed photo. A great combo for sure. One of my favorite B images.

The flag is from ‘Raising the flag on Iwa Jima’ by Joe Rosenthal. Conceptually based on this image with the twist of urban decay and poverty from Reed.

The Japanese killed more with ytheir regime than the nazi group during their reign but The Japanese atrocities are not discussed in any comparable comparison to the holocaust?
To use the image for ones own profit and not gift or make a charitable donation to the war memorials or charities for survivors suffering from PTSD from surviving the atrocities of the war is a little crass.
Again to symbolise victory and dominance of war by raising the flag is for psychological dominance over the enemy To show superiority is again a little crass .
To use the image in this manner considering what it represents and the amounts of people that died is disrespectful
