Stik authentication, by tommyt on Jul 6, 2020 20:16:25 GMT 1, Hi, has anyone been contacted lately by Stiks ‘Studio Team’ asking for high res images and ownership details like print numbers and images of Stiks signature etc? It just feels bogus, but I’m not sure.
Thanks

Its cheeky and intrusive. And none of their business as there was no reason given besides being interested.
Went firmly to the bin

That was the reason my pal contacted them in the first place (for authentication) but it was back in 2017 and they didn't reply until now.
I went to see him after he got married and noticed a framed Stik Single mum hung on his wall. I was surprised he had it as he wasn’t a collector. Turns out his sister in law bought it for them not knowing what it was (from eBay) framed and gave it as a wedding present to them...

Stik authentication, by Big Bad Mo on Jul 24, 2020 14:18:56 GMT 1, I contacted Stik In the last week via his website for authentication and got a reply the next day. The reply was “Thanks for getting in touch. It’s STIK’s studio team here. We are currently gathering information about print ownership. Can you send through images of your Stik print so we can See what it is? “ I sent on the info requested and I’m waiting to hear back. I did previously email Stik in 2017 about the same piece and he never came back to me. I just tried again this week as I have been reviewing my collection.

I’m looking for a COA or confirmation of a story relating to a specific piece of his work, so I’m not sure what other option there is really. Personally I’m quite satisfied with my provenance but don’t see a COA or email confirmation from the artist as detracting from the piece. If they confirm the story is true via email then it is a COA to me. I believe most people would be satisfied with everything else I have for provenance. I don’t see the data police out when PC knows who owns Banksy works and where they live. so I don’t really see the difference here as far as hoodwinked goes. I’m sure I have more data taken every time I search google, like I sent 4 pictures of a piece of paper, not my NI nr and bank details. . if they don’t reply then I agree that would be poor form but they only have the details I gave them. but in reality what’s the other option if you already have the piece? If I’m missing another route or avenue then I’m happy to take guidance.

Stik wont issue a coa or probably give anything to use as proof in the absence of one

I’m on the mailing list and didn’t get the email until I asked for it. Them fishing for the info and not then offering anything would be really shitty. I wonder how many pieces are out there that don’t have paperwork and will never get it if your correct. I know of a few works that are legit but have no paperwork, they were just bought early or gifted. They have the final say I suppose but I hope it’s not as ominous as you believe.

Stik authentication, by rambo901 on Jul 29, 2020 19:17:05 GMT 1, I contacted recently about authenticating a piece. They were really responsive and asked for lots of info but assumed they needed to verify I was the current owner. Probably exchanged 7/8 emails in total - then once they got all the info they've not replied and have ignored all my other emails since. Hoping its a genuine oversight so trying once more!

As i said a few posts back, its a data harvest - not a service.
